Skye Nicolson wants undisputed featherweight world champion Amanda Serrano after the Aussie scored the first stoppage win of her professional career with a ninth round TKO of Lucy Wildheart in Dublin.

The 28-year-old’s win is the first defence of her WBC interim featherweight world title, and the former Commonwealth Games gold medalist is eyeing up one of women’s boxing’s greatest in five-belt world champion Serrano.

“That’s the fight I want, that’s the fight anyone training in the featherweight division wants,” Nicolson said afterwards.

“I feel like I’m next in line and I’m hoping to make it happen in my next fight.

“I want to go undisputed in 10 fights, I want to be world champion in my 10th fight.”

Serrano is a genuine boxing superstar, who last year headlined the first ever women’s main event at Madison Square Garden when she moved up two divisions to fight for Katie Taylor’s undisputed lightweight crown.

Serrano lost a hotly contested split decision in one of the best fights of the year, and has since made four defences of her featherweight titles.

“No disrespect, she’s one of my idols and one of the trailblazers for women’s boxing,” Nicolson said. “To share the ring with her would be an honour, but also I want to prove that I’m the best in the world.”

With Ed Sheeran watching on from ringside, Nicolson was her usual evasive best in Dublin, leaving Wildheart bloodied around the nose and forcing the Swede’s corner to throw in the towel.

The performance silences some of the doubters who questioned the southpaw’s power after going to a decision in all nine of her first pro bouts.

“I don’t let that get to me,” she said of the outside noise. “It felt good to get the stoppage win, obviously, but I just love boxing.

“I go out there to fight and perform and I just want to win.”’

After taking former unified super featherweight world champion Mikaela Mayer the distance in April, Wildheart was touted as Nicolcon’s toughest opponent to date.

“That’s going to keep happening – the better the opponent, the better Skye Nicolson you’re going to get,” the Tokyo Olympian said. “I want to keep stepping through harder opponents, better opponents, 50-50 fights, and I’ll keep showing my level.”
