One is ready to take on the world inside a boxing ring, the other poised to tackle the world in rugby league — and the latter came through the Cronulla Sharks junior system.

Chaz Jarvis shows off his incredible pace and skill

One is ready to take on the world inside a boxing ring, the other poised to tackle the world in rugby league.

The Jarvis brothers — hailing from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire — are preparing for two massive sporting moments in coming weeks.

Brock, an established boxing star with a 20-0 record, will fight fellow-Australian Liam Paro on Saturday, October 15, for the WBO number one ranking and a mandatory shot at the light welterweight world title.

And brother Chaz, who has come through the Cronulla Sharks junior NRL system, is training with Lebanon and hopes to be included in the Cedars end-of-season World Cup squad.

The Jeff Fenech-trained Brock, 24, has claimed 18 of his 20 successive wins by knockout and will fight Paro at South Bank Piazza in Brisbane as his journey to an inevitable world title intensifies. The winner will also claim the WBO Global Title.

“For so many years I have been working so hard and I feel everything is now in reach,” said Brock, who will fight at 63.5 kgs.

Chaz, a utility who plays primarily in the halves, is eyeing a spot in a Lebanese side which could include NRL stars Adam Doueihi, Mitch Moses and Jacob Kiraz.

Just 19, Chaz represented Cronulla’s SG Ball side this season and hopes to progress into the club’s Jersey Flegg team next year.

Chaz hasn’t been selected for Lebanon yet with an extended Cedars squad expected to be finalised after a trial match against Italy in Sydney this weekend. Chaz’s grandmother, Elizabeth, has Lebanese heritage.

“I’m working hard every day trying to make my rugby league dream come true,” Chaz said. “I have started training with Lebanon and definitely hope to go to the World Cup. I’m training three times a week at Belmore. It’s been a great experience and I will keep pushing for that World Cup spot.

“I have a passion for rugby league. I have watched it my whole life. It’s where I want to be. I don’t want to be anywhere else. I have been working as a carpenter but I really want to put my foot down and go all-out chasing my rugby league dream.”

Asked about Chaz, Brock said: “Watching Chaz and the ability he has, I’ve never seen anyone like him. He is a great natural athlete and has an amazing work ethic. He is also a great leader, he has everything to go all the way.”

Pressed about Brock, Chaz said: “I definitely look up to my older brother. I see how hard he works every day and what he puts his body through. It really inspires me. He is always in my ear about working hard. He’s my role model.”

Brock’s last fight was a TKO win over Mexican Alejandro Frias in his American debut last October. The Jarvis-Paro fight will be shown through England and America.

Some of Chaz’s tries, showing his undoubted ability, have been compiled on a popular social media video.
