Tasmania JackJumpers’ NBL premiership hero Jack McVeigh is off to the big time, officially signing a deal to play with NBA franchise the Houston Rockets.
While speculation had been mounting over the past week a deal for McVeigh was close, the official word came through on Saturday evening via a JackJumpers statement.
“The Tasmania JackJumpers has today confirmed that Jack McVeigh has signed a two way contract with the Houston Rockets,” the statement said.
Chief Operating Officer Darren Smith said: “We received the signed paperwork this morning confirming the above contract. We wish Jack our full support for a successful NBA journey.
“We will be making a further statement in the coming days on Jack’s replacement situation.” McVeigh, currently in camp with the Australian Boomers ahead of the Paris Olympic Games, has been a standout performer for the JackJumpers since the team’s entry to the NBL three seasons ago.
A two-way deal with the Houston Rockets, means the 28-year-old would potentially play for both the Rockets and their G-League affiliate club Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
