BRONCOS defensive co-ordinator Wade Phillips was stretchered off the field in the second quarter of an NFL game at Denver on Sunday after a San Diego player accidentally ran into him on the sideline.
Phillips was knocked off his feet, falling backward and seeming to hit the back of his head when he hit the ground.
The contest was stopped for several minutes as medical personnel attended to Phillips, who has also worked with the Chargers in his NFL coaching career.
Phillips, 69, was placed on a stretcher and immobilised before being lifted onto a cart and driven off the field. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
