Watch out Freo: Crows Tasmanian young gun Chayce Jones says Adelaide on improve

Tasmanian Chayce Jones says Adelaide skipper Rory Sloane should be right to face the Dockers on Sunday but an axed Crow is still working his way back.

Virus outbreak forces AFL fixture reshuffle

ADELAIDE midfielder Chayce Jones says All-Australian Matt Crouch will bounce back from being dumped for the Brisbane game at the weekend and expects injured skipper Rory Sloane to be right to face Fremantle at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

Sloane rolled his ankle but completed the game, which turned into a six-goal loss to Brisbane.

“He’s hobbling a bit but he’s a professional and I’m sure whatever he does during the week he’ll get into recovery and be right to go for next week for sure,” Jones said.

“Matt Crouch knows what he’s got to do for the team and I have no doubt he will be working hard to get his spot back.”

Adelaide’s cracking third quarter is now the standard coach Matthew Nicks expects from the winless Crows.

“It’s obviously not where we want to be, but it’s not one of those things we focus on,” Jones said.

“We focus on how we go about it, and in the past few weeks we haven’t been going about it the right way.

“There were positives come out of that third quarter and it shows we have the capability to do it so we have got to build on that. It was a great motivator for the group.

“Instead of being one quarter, it’s now got to be two or three or four, and each week keep building toward that.”

Tex Walker narrowly avoided the axe but showed his quality with a powerful third term when he kicked two goals and set up two others.

“He’s that big presence up forward and he’s a professional who comes out and wants to give his best each week,” Jones said.

“I had no doubt that was going to happen for him.

“Sometimes it doesn’t go your way so the way he came out and attacked the ball was amazing and that’s why he’s been a past skipper.”

The Crows face Fremantle without its wounded captain and dual Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe.

“We’ll go into game focused on wat we can control and it’s another opportunity to get better and improve on what we’ve done before,” Jones said.
