Brisbane Lions membership booming amid AFL, AFLW success

With their men’s and women’s teams on a high, the Brisbane Lions have smashed membership records in the 2022 season.

The Brisbane Lions have seen a record high membership uptake this season, following the roaring success of the club’s AFL and AFLW teams.

Memberships reached a staggering 43,319 during the 2022 season, which also saw four sellout home games at the Gabba.

Another full house is expected at tomorrow night’s home game as the Lions go head to head with Richmond in the first finals qualifier.

Queenslanders were keener than ever to get to the Gabba and support the Lions this year, with total crowd numbers reaching 284,000 after the first 11 games of the 2022 season.

The most popular home game was Easter Thursday’s clash against Collingwood which drew a sellout crowd of 32,312 fans.

Overall, memberships have more than doubled since 2017, when the Lions had just 21,000 members.

Brisbane Lions chief executive Greg Swann credited the boom to both the AFL and AFLW teams’ consistent, competitive approach to the game and thanked the club’s undying supporters.

“On behalf of the entire club, our players and staff, a sincere thank you to our 43,319 members for your ongoing support, passion and dedication,” Mr Swann said.

“Our members are our club’s lifeblood. We are incredibly grateful for each and every one of you for getting behind our AFL and AFLW teams.

“There is morning better than seeing a sea of maroon, blue and gold filling the Gabba on game days.”

The Lions need to defeat the Tigers tomorrow to stay in the finals race, with the cat clash kicking off at 7.20pm.
