THE Adelaide Crows are hoping captain Taylor Walker will be available for Round 1 despite suffering a foot injury at training.

Walker will spend the next fortnight in a moon boot — but won’t need surgery — after straining his plantar fascia, the ligament which spans the arch of the foot from heel to ball.

The club has ruled out his participation in any preseason games.

Adelaide general manager of high performance Matt Hass said Walker would do limited training over the next fortnight, but is expected to make a full recovery within five to six weeks.

“Taylor had some soreness in his foot during training last week and after further assessment the strain was revealed,” Hass said.

“Fortunately, the injury doesn’t require surgery and he will make a full recovery after a period of rest.

“He will not take part in AFLX or the JLT Community Series, but is focused on being available for Round 1.”

The club didn’t reveal what foot he injured.

The key forward missed the side’s Round 23 loss to West Coast on the eve of last year’s finals series to rest a sore big toe that he hurt three weeks earlier.

A lingering foot injury also hobbled Walker at the start of the 2016 season.

The Crows will participate in the AFLX series at Hindmarsh next Thursday. They will then take on Fremantle at Strathalbyn Oval on February 25 and Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval on March 10 as part of the JLT Community Series.

They face Essendon in their season opener in a Friday night blockbuster at Etihad Stadium on March 23.
