Tassie debut within reach for AFLW North Melbourne player Nicole Bresnehan

Now that she has achieved her goal of becoming an AFLW player, nothing would be sweeter for Nicole Bresnehan than to be in the team for the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos’ inaugural game at North Hobart Oval on February 3.

NOW that she has achieved her goal of becoming an AFLW player, nothing would be sweeter for Nicole Bresnehan than to be in the team for the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos’ inaugural game at North Hobart Oval on February 3.

The 21-year-old homegrown talent has targeted a spot in the Kangas’ maiden outing against Carlton.

Bresnehan is one of eight Tasmanians in the Kangaroos’ AFLW squad of 30, and with a regulation team consisting of 20 players and two emergencies, she knows competition for spots is red hot.

“I’d be absolutely ecstatic to be in that first team,” Bresnehan said.

“It would be absolutely great — that is my goal and I will work as hard as I can to get there.”

The Kangaroos are in Hobart this weekend for preseason training and the AFLW community camp.

They conducted a meet-and-greet at the University of Tasmania yesterday and will train together at North Hobart Oval today from 9-11.30am.

The Tasmanian members of North Melbourne’s AFLW contingent will train locally and meet regularly with the main squad in the lead-up to the season opener.

“It has really started to ramp up,” Bresnehan said.

“We will be going over there [to Melbourne] quite a few times in the coming weeks. I see it as a real opportunity to extend that bond and have some really hard training sessions.”
