TASMANIA Devils Matt McGuinness, Jake Steele and Jared Dakin are off to the 2019 NAB AFL State Draft Combine in Melbourne on October 4-5, following confirmation that teammate Mitch O’Neill will attend the AFL Draft Combine.
AFL talent ambassador Kevin Sheehan, who was at the Devils’ opening NAB League game in Penguin, said the Tasmanian teenagers had earned their place.
“This is an exciting opportunity for players from right across Australia to showcase their AFL potential ahead of the AFL Draft,” Sheehan said.
“Players are required to have at least two nominations from AFL Clubs for them to be invited to a NAB AFL State Draft Combine.”
Hailing from TSL club Launceston, Dakin, one of three Devils co-captains, is a highly rated draft prospect despite missing the entire season with a shoulder injury.
McGuinness, of Lauderdale, has impressed as an over-age player in the NAB League, playing a variety of roles as a defender, forward and wingman to average 20 disposals and six marks a game.
Steele has also played a variety of roles, performing well as a key defender and ruckman and averaging 10 disposals and 13 hit-outs a game.
