Round 4 of KFC SuperCoach had it all.

There were some great scores, some low scores and crucially injuries to some very popular KFC SuperCoach players — look away now Nat Fyfe and Jeremy Howe owners!

We will need to do some serious trading this week to fix our teams for Round 5 and beyond.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: SAM DOCHERTY

Docherty continued his strong from after returning from a long-term injury – scoring a round and career-high 185 SuperCoach points in Carlton’s thrilling win over Essendon. He hit the target with 29 of 32 disposals, collected 28 uncontested possessions and

added 548 metres gained. Docherty’s price boomed by $52,900.

Marcus Bontempelli had a night to remember against Sydney with 166 KFC SuperCoach points.

CHAMPION DATA MARKET WATCH

Marcus Bontempelli

Bontempelli bounced back in style against the Swans — amassing 166 SuperCoach points, of which 133 were recorded in the first half. He finished with 19 disposals, 14 contested possessions, seven clearances and seven tackles from 91 per cent game time. He also chipped in with two first-half goals to cap off a best-afield display.

His scoring illustrated the emphasis KFC SuperCoach scoring places on impacting the game when it is in the balance. In the first half Bontempelli scored from 32 individual actions as the Bulldogs built a matchwinning lead. In contrast, Josh Kenedy — who finished the game with 19 disposals, the same number as Bontempelli — had only 13 scoring actions in the first half. The Sydney captain had just six disposals and 31 points at the main break.

In that half every one of Bontempelli’s actions was effective. Negative actions — like turnovers and free kicks against — cost Kennedy 13 points early in the second half, putting him even further behind on the SuperCoach scoresheet.

While he ralled to finish with a resepctable 93 KFC SuperCoach points, Kennedy’s possessions late in the game weren’t worth as much as Bont’s were early because the game was effectively over.

Josh Kelly

Kelly returned from injury to post a team-high 120 SuperCoach points in the Giants’ narrow win over Collingwood. He hit the target with 17 of 21 disposals, also recording 14 uncontested possessions, six tackles and four inside-50s from 89 per cent game time. Kelly also kicked one crucial goal and recorded two score assists.

Brad Ebert

Ebert celebrated his 250th AFL match in style – scoring 107 SuperCoach points – ranked fifth on the ground. He finished with 16 disposals, 11 uncontested possessions, five tackles and five inside-50s from 85 per cent game time. Ebert was also one of three

multiple goalkickers for the Power with two goals.

YOUNG GUN: TOM GREEN

Green imposed himself on the inside against the Magpies – recording game-highs of 11 per-clearance disposals and 10 pre-clearance contested possessions. He finished with 18 disposals, 12 contested possessions, and an equal game-high seven clearances

from just 67 per cent game time. Green scored 94 SuperCoach points and enjoyed a $33,100 price rise.

RAGE TRADES: WHY GWS SKIPPER HAS TO GO

Boot Him

Stephen Coniglio Mid $521,600 – 43 pts

Coniglio spent large portions of the game deep in the forward line apparently doing a defensive job on Jeremy Howe, and his scoring showed that. As a premium midfielder we simply can’t afford to hold a guy that is likely to get a job like this which sees him miss valuable midtime minutes.

Connor Rozee Mid $462,100 – 53 pts

After a blistering start to the season, Rozee has had two quieter games in a row now as other Power players step up. He only got to half of his break even and hence will drop again next week without a big score. Time to trade him.

Connor Rozee’s scoring has plummeted after averaging 135 points in the opening two rounds.
Connor Rozee’s scoring has plummeted after averaging 135 points in the opening two rounds.

Dan Houston Def $420,500 – 76 pts

Houston hasn’t made it to 80 points this season and he doesn’t have the midfield role that we were expecting after promising signs in pre-season. Many of his points this week came in junk time when the game was over. He has been dropping in value and coaches need more from a player who they started as a premium defender.

Elliot Yeo has been one of the Eagles who hasn’t adapted well to hub life in Queensland.
Elliot Yeo has been one of the Eagles who hasn’t adapted well to hub life in Queensland.

Elliot Yeo Mid $495,500 – 59 pts

Yeo has only hit 100 once this season and this round was his second score under 60. He appears to be hampered by an injured shoulder and we can’t have a premium midfielder scoring this poorly. You need to look at options for him before his value drops further.

Darcy MacPherson Fwd/Mid $412,400 – 54 pts

MacPherson has featured in this column before and he earned a reprieve in Round 3 with 111 points. But he posted his lowest score of the season in Round 4, with a disposal efficiency below 50 per cent, which brings the focus back on trading him out again. He is still in nearly 5 per cent of teams and has lost more value after missing his break even again. You expect minimum scores of 80 from a player in this price range.

Isaac Heeney’s scoring has suffered from spending more time in attack.
Isaac Heeney’s scoring has suffered from spending more time in attack.

Tom Doedee Def $307,900 – 48 pts

Doedee was a popular pick given his price and likely scoring potential but this is two scores under 50 now in his three games. He did have a great game last week but if he will be inconsistent like this we can’t have him in our sides.

Jack Steven Fwd/Mid $323,200 – 36 pts

This 36 after his 20 in his first game is not what we were expecting from Jack this season. If you brought him in you wouldn’t be happy with this level of output, time to trade him out.

On Watch

Isaac Heeney Mid/Fwd $508,300 – 64 pts

Heeney has been very inconsistent this year His scores have gone 152, 60, 123 and 64. This makes it very hard for owners as we just don’t know what we will get. We need him to be scoring 100 or more points consistently. If you want to trade him then you risk missing one of these good scores, but you could just avoid a shocker too.

Nic Naitanui Ruc $495,000 – 74 pts

It has been an up-and-down season for Naitanui owners. He hasn’t been playing high levels of time on ground which has limited his scoring potential. Some other rucks like Todd Goldstein, Brodie Grundy and Rowan Marshall are spending 90 per cent or more of games on the field but Naitanui had just 63 per cent this week and is averaging just 65 per cent for the year.

Injury Watch!

Sam Naismith Ruc $296,800 – 79 pts

Reports are that Naismith has injured his knee again which is a shame after everything he has done to get back to playing. But for coaches that still have him he will be a must trade now. Thankfully he played the game out and got to the 79 points to appreciate in value.

Jeremy Howe Def $536,700 – 112 pts

A knee injury to Howe, who has torn his PCL and damaged his medial ligament in the last quarter, will cause him to miss most of 2020. He had a great game before going down, but unfortunately he will now need to be traded out by the 26 per cent of teams that own him as he will miss at least 3-4 months.

Nat Fyfe Mid $670,500 – 71 pts

A huge issue for 40 per cent of KFC SuperCoach teams this week, with Fyfe injuring his hamstring in the third quarter against Gold Coast. Thankfully he didn’t lose much value as he had a break even of 76. But we need to closely monitor injury reports from Fremantle to see if he is going to miss, which seems likely.

Nat Fyfe’s hamstring injury will be a major talking point ahead of Round 5.
Nat Fyfe’s hamstring injury will be a major talking point ahead of Round 5.

Zac Williams Def $479,500 – 81 pts

Williams came off early in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. He didn’t return and is now set to be on the sidelined for 3-4 weeks. Trade.

Dayne Zorko Mid $501,600 – 47 pts

Just 31% game time for Zorko as his day was ended by a calf issue. This is just after missing a week with an achilies issue. If they end up being related issues then we could see Zorko on the sidelines for a few weeks.

Tom Stewart Def $498,000 – 18 pts

Stewart was incredibly unlucky after an innocuous bump caused a suspected broken collarbone. Unfortunately, he will need to be traded.

Jack Ziebell Mid/Fwd $414,500 – 20 pts

Ziebell had a hamstring issue in the last quarter and we didn’t see him again, but up until that time he had only had 7 touches and 3 tackles in what ended up being 70% game time. If he is going to miss any game time then you need to trade him out.

Jordan Ridley is shaping as one of the best mid-pricers of the year in defence.
Jordan Ridley is shaping as one of the best mid-pricers of the year in defence.

Buy Him

Jake Lloyd Def $589,000 – 102 pts

Lloyd has had three successive games over 100 now after a quiet game in Round 1. He has also been taking a lot of the kick ins from full back. If he can keep this sort of form up then we can expect him to be comfortably in the top-six defenders again.

Brad Ebert Fwd $519,500 – 107 pts

Ebert hasn’t scored less than 100 yet and he has only just hit $500,000. He is in just 1 per cent of teams and he looks to be a fantastic unique for those sides. He has a great role and he appears to be in close to career-best form.

Dan Butler is relishing his new surrounds at St Kilda and has jumped in price.
Dan Butler is relishing his new surrounds at St Kilda and has jumped in price.

Dan Butler Fwd $415,300 – 118 pts

Three 100+ scores in a row for the ex-Tiger. He has come out of the break well and looks at home playing as a pressure forward with the Saints. His price is still reasonably cheap, but it is rising fast. If you want to get on him, now would be the time.

Scott Pendlebury Mid $575,100 – 150 pts

Pendlebury was overlooked by a lot of coaches again this season and finds himself in only 3 per cent of teams. It is amazing that he isn’t more popular as he has three scores over 100 this season and doesn’t look like slowing down. However, with Adam Treloar set to return soon his role may change slightly.

Jordan Ridley Def $410,100 – 134 pts

Young Bomber Ridley is cheap, but won’t be for long! He has had a great start to the season with 94 being his lowest score in his three games. He is in 5 per cent of teams so he isn’t heavily owned yet but that looks set to change this week. He has a great role, is very effieint by foot and this helps his scoring.

Hugh McCluggage Mid $535,000 – 141 pts

McCluggage has now had two scores over 140 in a row and is showing some outstanding form. He has been promising us this form for a couple of years and is now delivering. He should be a big trade in target this week as his break even is now 13 and he will rise in value quickly with more like this.

You may want to trade these guys in if you don’t have them yet

Dan Butler 118 – This is two great scores from him in a row. Rookie priced but playing like a veteran.

Matt Rowell 114 – Another great score from this amazing number one pick. He is starting to look like a keeper this season and not a cash cow.
