The Eagles have conceded the most points on average in the ruck and the second-most to opposition midfielders and general forwards in 2025 – continuing trends we saw last season. Expect Lachie Neale, Josh Dunkley and Dayne Zorko to dine out on Sunday.

Despite recording a shock upset win in round 1, Richmond was the third-easiest team to score against across the board – so keep Port Adelaide players front of mind this week.

St Kilda gave up lots of points to general defenders, as it did all last year, while, perhaps surprisingly, Melbourne conceded the most points in the midfield.

On the other side of the coin, Brisbane is the hardest team for midfielders and rucks to score against (not what Matt Flynn owners wanted to hear), and the second-hardest for general forwards.

GREEN LIGHT: WHO TO TARGET THIS WEEK

Midfielders v Melbourne – Luke Davies-Uniacke (who scored 148 against the Demons last year) and Harry Sheezel (117).

Midfielders v West Coast – Lachie Neale has an average of 146 from his past three against the Eagles. Josh Dunkley averages 126 in the same period.

Midfielders v Richmond – Connor Rozee and Jason Horne-Francis stand out. Will one be followed by the “flying doorknob” Kamdyn McIntosh?

Rucks v Hawthorn – Tom De Koning should score well again as a solo ruckman.

General defenders v St Kilda – Tom Stewart had his prime scoring role back last week and should feast under the roof.

General defenders v West Coast – Dayne Zorko will be licking his lips, although he only managed 93 points against the Eagles in 2024.

General defenders v Collingwood – The Pies concede the fourth-most points in this part of the ground, and Bailey Dale scored 132 against them last year.

Nick Daicos – the Dogs are a hard match-up for midfielders but Nick loves playing them, scoring 156 and 136 in his past two.

RED LIGHT: WHO TO AVOID THIS WEEK

Max Gawn and Tristan Xerri go head-to-head on Sunday – and, not surprisingly, both are difficult to score against. In the corresponding match last year Xerri scored 111 and Gawn 114.

Hawthorn and Carlton midfields are both restrictive, which could make life difficult for the likes of Will Day and Adam Cerra.

Sydney is a mid-table match-up for opposition midfielders, but master stopper James Jordon will go to one of Caleb Serong or Andrew Brayshaw.

CBAs, KICK-INS, TIME ON GROUND

Every week Champion Data will track these three stats which provide key insight into players’ roles and SuperCoach scoring potential.

The four teams that featured in opening rounds didn’t wait long to change things up for round 1, with Collingwood totally scrambling its centre bounce mix. Scott Pendlebury attended 80 per cent of CBAs in opening round but started round 1 as the sub, while Ned Long flipped that script, jumping from 20 to 71 per cent in a week. Harry Perryman’s CBAs dipped from 52 per cent to 42 per cent.

There were changes at GWS, too, with James Leake falling from seven CBAs to zero and Finn Callaghan also taking a hit with the return of Tom Green.

The sub vest had a big impact on time on ground numbers for players like Ben Paton and Corey Warner, but Will Day bumping up his TOG to 81 per cent was also notable.
