SuperCoach 2024: SuperCoach cult figure Abdul reveals round 3 trade plan

Abdul – AKA the SCodfather – plays SuperCoach like few others. His left-field approach earned him a top-five finish in 2022. See how he plans to go even better this year.

SuperCoach AFL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 3

Hellooooooo everybody,

This is the most important time of the year when we, as coaches, restructure our teams and make sure they are ready to tackle all the challenges that lie ahead.

Every year offers different challenges and different structures are required.

Last week I made the decision that the best structure to go forward with this year was a Guns and Rookies approach.

I started the year with a mixed bag of high-end premos, a few mid-pricers and as many cheap rookies as I could lay my hands on. These rookies were not the high-class top-shelf stuff, I was severely strapped for cash so they were imported from China and arrived in a container.

However, after watching the rookies score as many points as the mid-priced players in round 1, I had to Tink a little until my brain hurt and then i made an executive decision to make the switch and trade out all the underperforming mid-priced players and turn them into high-end premos that have huge ceilings, plus bring in some more cheaper rookies which were the leftovers from that container that I had previously ordered.

So my trades were based on a three-week plan.

END OF ROUND 1

Traded out: Hayden Young, Zac Fisher, Nic Martin.

I identified these players as not the best in their positions for SuperCoach scoring

and selected players that offer a higher ceiling as I would need them for the bye rounds.

Traded in: Luke Ryan, Caleb Serong, Tom Berry.

The first two players that I picked worked out extremely well, however the Spud Berry pick was maybe not the best choice. I couldn’t Calm a Down watching his score.

Which now brings us to this week.

END OF ROUND 2

Traded out: Riley Bonner, Spud Berry (who I just brought in), Brodie Grundy.

The Bonner pick didn’t go to plan, and my golden rule is to never fall in love with my players. The same applies to Berry. However, the reason that I’ve traded out Grundy is because I can’t see his value increasing much more than what he is priced at now, so I’ve decided to cash out and go for a cheaper option as I will require that extra cash next week – more on that soon.

Traded in: Tristan Xerri, Colby McKercher, Tom Powell

This has left me with just under $70k for next week.

I love the way Xerri plays and he has an ideal SuperCoach game, plus he is reasonably priced at $407k, so I can see upside in him after scores of 107 and 108 in the first two rounds.

For Tom Powell, the 93 per cent CBAs was the selling point. He could even end up being a top-six forward by the end of the year, so why not grab him while he is still very cheap.

With McKercher I wanted to see his role before I picked him, and after seeing him in that half-back line I had no hesitation in bringing him in.

PLANS FOR NEXT WEEK

I have two targets. One of them is Zak Butters, who will come in via trading out Ollie Wines.

My second target is Sam Darcy, who I want to bring in by trading out James Jordon.

I’ve made a decision that both these players won’t be the best available in their positions, so I’m continuing the theme of bringing in the best available premos and rookies while trading out my mid-priced players.

We also have a slight problem on our backline bench.

Josh Gibcus and Zach Reid both look likely to have long-term injuries, however help should be on the way soon.

I’ve avoided bringing in players like Toby Pink and Marty Hore because of their unknown job security. However, on my radar in the next two weeks will be Ethan Phillips (Haw), Karl Worner (Freo) and Arie Schoenmaker (StK) – I’m hoping at least two of them will play and give us much better defensive options.

Also, in round 7 we will have the first DPP additions for the year, so players like McKercher and Matt Roberts should also be available as defenders and should score high enough to keep on field.

If you have had a slow start to the season, don’t worry. A quick structure change will turn your season around. Last year I was ranked around the top 40,000 at the end of round 3 and got it all the way up to the top 1000.

Unfortunately, that didn’t last very long as my team was riddled with injuries and absmagic fell off a cliff.

Good luck for the rest of the season and I hope your team does extremely well.

You can catch me on youtube and I’ll be more than happy to help you if you have questions.

Just Calm a Down :)
