Just look at Sam Docherty. He went from an average scorer at Brisbane to the No. 1 defender in SuperCoach as a Blue in 2016.

It took him a couple of years to see the impact of the move. Patrick Dangerfield was an instant hit, boosting his SuperCoach average by 12 points a game.

Who could do the same this year? Here are 10 leading candidates.

1. Richmond — Toby Nankervis ($366,400, Ruck-Fwd).

Played seven games with Sydney last year, scoring above 80 in four despite splitting ruck duties with Sam Naismith. Likely to be Richmond’s No.1 ruck so looks a bargain buy.

2. Fremantle — Bradley Hill ($355,200, Mid-Fwd).

Averaged only 65 at Hawthorn last year but should find more opportunity at the Dockers. Scored 114 in his second pre-season match on Saturday.

3. Fremantle — Cam McCarthy ($203,600, Fwd).

A 2013 first-round draft pick who kicked 35 goals from 20 games with GWS in 2015 but played no football last year after being granted personal leave. Could be worth a gamble at the bargain price.

4. St Kilda — Jack Steele ($347,100, Mid-Fwd).

Had limited opportunity at GWS last year, playing just 10 games and averaging 63. Showed he might be a steal with a score of 155 against Carlton on Saturday.

5. North Melbourne — Nathan Hrovat ($301,400, Mid-Fwd).

Managed only four games with the Bulldogs last year but looks set to play a far bigger role with the Kangaroos. Has posted scores of 94 and 84 in two pre-season games.

6. Geelong — Aaron Black ($137,100, Fwd).

Dirt cheap after not playing a game for North last year. Kicked four goals in the pre-season match against Hawthorn for a return of 89 points.

7. Carlton — Billie Smedts ($217,100, Mid-Fwd).

Played only one game at Geelong last year but should be a Blues regular. Scored 67 on a difficult day for Carlton against St Kilda on Saturday.

8. Gold Coast — Jarrod Witts ($217,600, Ruck).

Tipped to play a leading role in the ruck for the Suns after managing just two games at Collingwood last season.

9. Richmond — Josh Caddy ($488,600, Mid-Fwd).

Averaged 89 from 18 games with Geelong last season and could take another step forward after an impressive start with the Tigers.

10. Western Bulldogs — Travis Cloke ($354,900, Fwd).

Averaged only 53 from 13 games at Collingwood last season when low on confidence. Can he wind back the clock at the Dogs and return to scores in the 80s and 90s?
