THE Phantom covers the standouts from Round 2.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Josh Gibson DEF (Haw) $489,200

The Hawthorn defender was allowed to do as he pleased at the MCG, tallying 44 disposals at 84 per cent efficiency to finish with a huge, round-high 191 SuperCoach points. Gibson roamed free, registering 24 handball receives and a game-high 11 score involvements. With a break-even of 10, a significant price increase is on the cards after round three so, if you are trading in defence, Gibson must be considered this week.

MARKET WATCH

Player prices will begin to change after round three so use your two trades this week to correct any initial selections and jump on the best rookies to maximise your cash generation.

GOING UP

Tom Papley FWD (Syd) $109,900

The 19-year-old backed up his 104-point performance on debut with 17 disposals, two goals and 109 points against the Blues in round two. If you don’t own Papley, who faces a break-even of -149, the equal lowest in the competition, bringing him in this week should be a top priority.

Marcus Adams DEF/FWD (WB) $117,300

The mature-age recruit has made a seamless transition into AFL footy, posting a game-high 135 points in his second outing. Adams shares the equal lowest break-even with Papley and is another must-have.

Ben Kennedy MID/FWD (Melb) $187,800

The class of the former Magpie has shone through in his first two appearances as a Demon, with the half-forward/midfielder tallying a combined 42 possessions and four goals. After posting two SuperCoach tons in the opening rounds, Kennedy’s scoring power is strong enough that we could have a potential forward line keeper on our hands. A break-even of -110 ahead of round three will ensure a steep price rise so get on if you can.

GOING DOWN

Heath Shaw ($607,800 BE: 194), Todd Goldstein ($695,100 BE: 185) and Nat Fyfe ($670,600 BE: 174) are all set for a price drop but don’t even think about trading — you didn’t pick them to make money. For those who don’t have them, keep an eye on their discounted prices in the coming weeks.

Michael Barlow FWD /MID (Freo) $505,300

With a break-even of 174, even if he scores 70, Barlow’s price will drop by almost $50k but surely Ross needs him back in the middle now. The calls that the game has gone past the 28-year-old are premature. Barlow’s lack of genuine leg speed has always been evident but it’s his clean hands, ability to find space and be in the right spot that has always made up for it. If he finds himself back in the preferred inside midfield role, getting his hands on the ball first, these attributes will again come to the fore. Averages of 98, 113, 114 and 115 against the Dockers’ next four opponents means The Phantom will hold for now.

Michael Barlow getting tricky.

Tom Rockliff MID (Bris) $550,100

The Brisbane skipper looks unlikely to make the trip to Geelong this week due to a calf injury and is one of the major dilemmas facing SuperCoaches ahead of round three. If he does get up, Rockliff has to be held, even with a substantial price drop on the cards after two sub-par scores to start the year have resulted in a break-even of 184. While there is no problem with the ball magnet’s scoring ability, his durability his starting to become a concern. With top-ranked SuperCoach midfielder Luke Parker ($538,200 BE: 37) still available for $12k less than Rockliff, a trade is very tempting.
