THE ability to run out a quarter and pile on the points is a quality significant in SuperCoach. The time on period of a quarter begins at the 20 minute mark and ends at the completion of the quarter.
FIRST HALF
Max Gawn has exceeded all expectations this season. He is the most prolific scorer in the competition in time on periods in first halves, averaging 28.4 points. His average of 67.8 points across the entire first half is only bettered by Patrick Dangerfield (75.6) and Scott Pendlebury (71.5).
Speaking of Dangerfield, he ranks third overall for his contribution in the time-on period with an average of 27.1 points.
Some of the lesser likes to feature are Trent Dumont (second), Zac Williams (sixth) and Josh Kelly (seventh).
SECOND HALF
Marcus Bontempelli’s impact on games late has been well documented of late, and the numbers back this up — averaging 22.1 points in the time on period in second halves, ranking a clear No.1.
With Gary Ablett succumbing to injury, Bontempelli’s ownership is growing by the day, especially after racking up 140 points last week against Richmond.
Since Round 7 alone he ranks third in the competition for points scored per game (120), with only Scott Pendlebury (129) and Patrick Dangerfield (138) ranking higher.
Mitch Duncan ranks second with an average off 20.3 points, while Rory Sloane isn’t too far behind in third. Sloane is virtual straight swap for the injured Ablett, and considering the Crows play five of their final seven games at Adelaide Oval, his appeal is even greater.
He has averaged 120 points at Adelaide Oval this season, an increase from 119 and 116 at the venue across the past two seasons.
FULL GAME
Max Gawn is the most prolific scorer in time on periods across the match, averaging 45.8 points, just slightly ahead of Gary Ablett.
Gawn has overtaken the mantle of the No.1 ruckman in the competition from Todd Goldstein, who ranks fourth overall for his contribution in time on periods.
Other midfielders to rank in the top 10 are Patrick Dangerfield (third), Marcus Bontempelli (fifth), Lachie Neale (seventh), Trent Dumont (ninth) and Callan Ward (10th).
Ward is another option to replace Ablett, especially after dropping to under $500k for the first time this season after scoring 78 points against Collingwood.
The Giants only face two top eight sides in the run home, with their next four games all against bottom 10 opposition.
