KFC SuperCoach DPP changes: Time in position statistics, Max Gawn, Christian Petracca, Sam Walsh analysis

Four of KFC SuperCoach’s biggest stars remain in the frame for dual-position status in a change which could have a huge impact on forward lines. See the latest time in position stats here.

KFC SuperCoach AFL: Hot & Cold Round 6

Throw out your plans to finish your KFC SuperCoach forward line in the next few weeks.

Come round 12, we could be in for one of the biggest mid-season shake-ups SuperCoach has ever had.

Sam Walsh and Max Gawn are closing in on having FWD status added after round 11 after their time spent forward increased in round 8.

Carlton star’s Walsh forward percentage increased from 37 to 39 this week after attending 46 per cent (13) centre bounces against Brisbane Lions.

That was Walsh’s second-highest CBA percentage this year, but George Hewett (79 per cent) and Patrick Cripps (75) remain Michael Voss’ preferred centre bounce midfielders.

Sam Docherty (25) was the fourth option behind Walsh, who has been starting at half forward before pushing into midfield in recent games.

Voss’ decision to use Matt Kennedy as sub in the past two games has also had an impact on Walsh.

In round 7 Kennedy had 10 last-quarter CBAs to Walsh’s one. Against Brisbane it was Kennedy five to Walsh three.

As Carlton fights to hold on to its top-eight spot, it remains to be seen whether Voss will throw Walsh more midfield minutes in coming rounds.

But if his percentage remains at 35 per cent or above, KFC SuperCoach’s will have a new must-have forward come round 12 (although Carlton has the round 15 bye).

Tim Taranto (117.6) is the only forward averaging more points than Walsh this year.

Max Gawn’s forward time also increased this week from 36 to 38 per cent, pushing the Demons skipper closer to becoming a RUC-FWD.

Gawn recorded 47 ruck contests to Brodie Grundy’s 42 against the Suns as they split centre bounces 14 apiece.

If that 50-50 split continues against Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Fremantle in the next three weeks, Gawn will have DPP added before round 12.

In the four games he has finished this year, Gawn is averaging a career-high 6.5 marks and 1.3 goals a game, both career highs.

Christian Petracca’s forward-mid split stayed at 32-68 after 15 CBAs against Gold Coast.

Jack Macrae is the other big name in the mix for FWD status.

Macrae’s forward percentage lifted from 28 per cent to 30 per cent this week.

If that +2 per cent trend continues, Macrae will just qualify to be FWD-MID after round 11.

Jack Sinclair (25 per cent MID to 29 per cent) and Jayden Short (59 per cent DEF to 47 per cent) were two of round 8’s big movers in the race for DPP.

Short is listed as a MID only in KFC SuperCoach and was used at 12 centre bounces against West Coast (44 per cent).

That was an increase of 30 per cent from round 7.

Callum Mills’ time in defence decreased from 25 per cent to 22, all but ruling him out of becoming a DEF-MID.
