Port Adelaide has surged to third on the ladder after one of their best wins this season over Carlton on Friday night.
Down by 25 points at half time the Power kicked seven goals to one in the second half to win by 14 points.
The win moves the Power to third on the ladder with Carlton still second but precariously placed as other teams prepare to play this round.
The Blues could be out of the top-four come Monday.

The three takeaways
LIKE A FINE WINE
Ollie Wines is having another great season at the Power and is someone SuperCoaches should look at heading into finals. He scored 114 points on Friday against Carlton, his third 100-plus point score in the past four rounds. Wines got 26 disposals and had 10 tackles. At under $500,000 he could be a good middle tier option in the midfield.
CARLTON MIDS STRUGGLED
It was a tough night for Adam Cerra (54) and Oliver Hollands (41) with neither scoring well in SuperCoach or having an impact in the game. As Port’s quartet of Zak Butters, Ollie Wines, Connor Rozee and Jason Horne-Francis influenced the game in the second half, both were nowhere to be seen. It’s hard to see many SuperCoach players going for these two players with low outputs in recent games. Even Patrick Cripps (86) struggled to make an impact in SuperCoach. He might have been the leading disposal winner for the Blues with 25 but he was at least 20 points behind the leading Blues players in SuperCoach on the night.
WEITERING CONTINUES FORM
The struggles for Carlton in the backline has had a silver lining for SuperCoaches with Jacob Weitering averaging 92 points in his last three matches before Friday night. Tonight, he scored 101 to solidify that average and become a potential target for coaches to trade in this week. He had 16 disposals, which included 12 kicks, and seven marks. At just over 400,000, $410,400, he could he a nice pick up in the final few rounds if he continues his form.
10.18pm: PORT WINS
Port Adelaide keeps Carlton goal less in the final term to further enhance their chances of making the finals and maybe even the top-four. Port kicks four goals in the final term to win. Score: Port 10.13. (79) to Carlton 9.11. (65).

Was it a goal or a behind? Port Adelaide scores a goal which will end the contest but it will be talked about for days. Darcy Byrne-Jones soccers a goal and it looks to have hit the umpire first before it hits the goalpost. The score review agrees but there is only two angles which shows what happens. It didn’t look conclusive but the original decision would have been a goal anyway. The key here is once again there is no definitive way to show whether it was a goal or not. Port now leads by 14 points.
10.07pm: DECISIVE GOAL?
Port Adelaide goes down the other end and Jason Horne-Francis marks 45 metres out. He makes no mistake and Port Adelaide leads by eight points with five minutes left. Carlton has kicked just one goal this half and now it needs two to win the game. Big ask from here.
10.06pm: CARLTON MISS CHANCES
Elijah Hollands and Matthew Kennedy miss set shots from more than 45 metres out with both kicking behinds. Port leads by two points with six minutes of game time left.
10.04pm: BOTH TEAMS PRESS TO WIN
The goals have dried up but both teams are making their move to win the contest. Carlton is struggling to find a target inside 50 with Port double teaming Charlie Curnow. Port Adelaide meanwhile is having their own issues finding a target inside 50. The next goal might win the contest.
9.53pm: PORT HAS THE LEAD
And now Port Adelaide leads at Marvel Stadium. Carlton’s Nic Newman concedes a free kick for making contact with Darcy Byrne-Jones after he kicked the ball into Port’s 50. Jackson Mead gets the downfield free kick for the Power and kicks the goal to give the team the lead.
9.51pm: POWER MARKS MARCH
Port Adelaide kicks the first goal of the final term and the margin is now two points. Esava Ratugolea kicked his second goal of the night and the Power can smell an upset. The team has kicked five of the last six goals.
9.50pm: POWER MAKES SUB
Lachie Jones has been subbed out for Port Adelaide. Quinton Narkle is now on for his first minutes of the contest.
9.45pm: SUPERCOACH STATS
Charlie Curnow is the first player tonight to score 100-plus points in the contest and is currently on 113 at three-quarter-time. Nic Newman (92) is likely to join him with Sam Walsh also on track after scoring 82 points in the match. Zak Butters, after his 10 disposals term, is currently on 73 points but he isn’t the top Port player. Jordan Sweet, who had three disposals and 12 hit-outs in the third term, is on 87 and is the leading Power player.
9.40pm: THREE QUARTER TIME
It’s game on at Marvel Stadium after Port Adelaide dominated the third term to close the margin to 10 points at the final change. Port kicks three goals to one and the contest is alive. Score: 9.8. (62) to 7.10. (52).
9.32pm: GAME ON
Carlton responds with Matthew Kennedy kicking his second goal of the night before Willie Rioli kicks the goal of the night as Port responds. He gets the crumbs near the goalsquare and immediately snaps over his shoulder for a goal.
9.25pm: PORT CLOSES MARGIN

The first goal is scored for the quarter with just under eight minutes of playing time remaining. Darcy Byrne-Jones snaps a wonderful goal and the margin is now 18 points.
9.21pm: GOALLESS FIRST HALF OF TERM
Carlton still leads by almost four goals as Port miss their chance to get back into the contest. No goals have been scored in the opening 10 minutes of play in the term.
9.14pm: PORT MISS CHANCES
Port Adelaide scores the opening three behinds of the quarter to close the margin. The Power have had all the running in the second half but have not put it on the scoreboard.
9.05pm: SUPERCOACH STATS
Charlie Curnow is one of the leading players in the game and in SuperCoach he is number one. The forward is on 86 points after kicking three goals in the first half. Sam Welsh and Patrick Cripps have also had solid first halves with 63 and 54 respectively. Elijah Hollands is on 67 after scoring more than 40 in the first term. The leader for Port is Ollie Wines on 67 after he had 18 disposals in the first half. Mitch Georgiades is on 55 after kicking three goals. Finally, Zak Butters scored 31 points in the second half to be on 41 at half time. He was able to get seven disposals in the second quarter after only three in the first term.
8.55pm: HALF TIME STATS
Goals – Carlton: C. Curnow 3, M Cottrell 1, M. Kennedy 1, J. Motlop 1, M. Owies 1, L. Young 1. Port Adelaide: M. Georgiades 3, E. Ratugolea.
Disposals – Carlton: S. Walsh 15, A. Cerra 13, E. Hollands 13, P. Cripps 12, B. Kemp 12. Port Adelaide: O. Wines 18, C. Rozee 14, J. Burgoyne 13, T. Boak 12, D. Houston 11.
8.51pm: TURNOVERS KEY IN BLUES LEAD
Carlton has scored 31 points from turnovers tonight. It essentially is the difference in the contest. The Blues have been the number one side the past six weeks in that stat.
8.47pm: HALF TIME
A late goal to Port Adelaide reduces the margin to 25 points but the quarter belonged to Carlton. The Blues kicked seven goals to open up the contest and give them a handy lead at the main break. Score: 8.6. (54) to 4.5. (29).
8.38pm: BLUES ON TOP

Charlie Curnow has three goals, two this quarter, and Carlton has kicked the past five goals to now lead by 25 points. The Blues have taken control of the midfield and Port Adelaide is struggling to get repeated entries inside their 50. The Blues are on top right now.
8.30pm: CARLTON TAKES CONTROL
The Blues have kicked the last three goals of the game and lead by 12 points halfway through the second term. Charlie Curnow is starting to become a handful in attack and has two goals for the Blues. This is a big 10 minutes in the contest. Port needs to hold on to stay in the hunt.
8.24pm: GOAL FOR GOAL EARLY
Carlton has the lead back after kicking two of the first three goals of the second term. Meanwhile, Zak Butter has been held well by Alex Cincotta with the Power midfielder only on three disposals.
8.15pm: SUPERCOACH UPDATE
It’s been a big first quarter for Elijah Hollands with the forward on 46 points to lead everyone in SuperCoach. Ollie Wines is the best Port Adelaide player with 44 points. Charlie Curnow has also scored well, to be on 38 points, despite only kicking one goal. SuperCoaches with Zak Butter (10), Connor Rozee (17) and Jason Horne-Francis (15) would be worried after all three started slow.
8.08pm: QUARTER TIME
Mitch Georgiades has a chance to extend Port’s lead at quarter time but misses to the left. Port Adelaide leads by four points at the first break in a close contest. Carlton has missed chances but Port deserves the lead. Score: Port 2.2. (14) to Carlton 1.4. (10).
8.05pm: SUB MADE
Carlton has activated their sub with David Cuningham out of the game with a left shoulder injury. He is replaced by Jack Carroll.
8.00pm: INJURY CONCERN FOR BLUES
Carlton small forward David Cuningham has gone straight into the rooms with a shoulder injury. He made contact with Willie Rioli and looks to have dislocated his shoulder in the contest. The team might be using an early sub.
7.53pm: PORT BOUNCES BACK
Esava Ratugolea is playing a different role tonight, being pushed more up the ground rather than staying in defence. He kicks Port Adelaide’s first goal of the game and the margin is three points. It’s been a close and tight contest early.
7.45pm: CARLTON ON TOP EARLY
Port Adelaide is trying to play through the corridor but twice Carlton have been able to score through turnovers when the Power does it. Charlie Curnow kicks the first goal of the game to give the Blues a seven-point lead early.
7.40pm: GAME UNDERWAY
Carlton wins the first clearance and the game is underway.
7:20pm: SUBS CONFIRMED
Carlton and Port Adelaide has confirmed the subs for tonight’s clash. Jack Carroll is the sub for the Blues with Quinton Narkle the sub for the Power. Game starts in about 20 minutes.
7.15pm: MORE DETAILS ON MCKAY OUT
From Chris Cavanagh.
Carlton has revealed Harry McKay was given until the final moments to be fit to play but made the call to swing the change late.
Carlton coach Michael Voss said the club gave McKay every chance to play before making the late change to bring in Young.
“(He) woke up ill, so no good,” Voss said on Fox Footy.
“We have to obviously replace him. We tried to wait for as long as we could (but) it just didn’t come good across the day. So (we) replaced him with Youngy.”
Young is expected to spend time forward and as a relief ruck to Marc Pittonet.
Harry McKay (illness) has been replaced by Lewis Young.

6.40PM: MCKAY LATE OUT
Carlton has been dealt a blow ahead of tonight’s crunch clash with Port Adelaide, with key forward Harry McKay a late out with illness.
McKay has been replaced in the Blues side by defender Lewis Young.
McKay suffered a heavy knock during last Sunday’s win over North Melbourne but passed concussion tests and trained during the week.
Carlton coach Michael Voss had said on Thursday that McKay had “been good” and the club was “confident he’d find his way back in” before he was named in the team on Thursday night.
The Blues are already without Tom De Koning (foot), leaving a smaller forward line for the match with the Power.
It is a must-win game for Port Adelaide, which could fall outside the top-eight by the end of the round if it loses.
— Chris Cavanagh
PREVIEW
Port Adelaide likely needs two wins from its final five matches to cement a spot in the top eight.
That is no guarantee with a difficult fixture ahead including three matches against teams currently in the top four – starting Friday night against Carlton.
Can the Power claim a big scalp? Their biggest star might have to beat a tag to do it, with Zak Butters likely to run into Blues stopper Alex Cincotta.
Meanwhile, Port Adelaide midfielder Willem Drew could have the huge job of stopping Patrick Cripps.
