Geelong forward Jeremy Cameron’s savage act to AFL pitch invader

Players stepped in to deal with a fan that ran into the field of play during the Crows’ AFL clash with Geelong, and one star had the last laugh.

The clash between Adelaide and Geelong was interrupted by “an idiot” that left the stands and entered the field of play.

With 7:40 left on the clock in the third quarter and Cats up by 12 points, a man in black shorts and T-shirt, carrying a red hat and filming on his phone, ran right into a forest of players contesting the ball.

It seemed to take a few seconds for everyone to realise what was happening, commentators and players alike, before Crows star Matt Crouch took matters into his own hands and grabbed the moron by the shirt as he threw his hat into the air.

The intruder managed to break free and then ran a merry dance in a circle while security personnel finally got involved.

Adelaide’s Ben Keays then took care of the situation, grabbing him with two hands and throwing him to the Adelaide Oval turf, allowing security to get hold of him.

“Ball pinging around everywhere as we have to stop this game, there’s an idiot out there on the field. Astounding,” commentator James Brayshaw said.

“Then Keays just deals with him. That’s just amazing that you’d think that’s something you would ever do.”

Geelong’s Jeremy Cameron, who is known for his larrikan sense of humour, pulled off the “holding the ball” signal right by the fool, who by this stage had four security guards corralling him.

“So this is going to take a little while to get under control here as they get him from the ground,” Brian Taylor said.

“That’s the end of him coming to the ground though,” Matthew Richardson added, with the intruder certain to face a fine and a ban from the stadium.

“It should be Richo. Seriously,” Brayshaw added.

The clown was then escorted from the field as boos rang around the stadium.

Brayshaw stated the dangers this sort of episode could hold for the players if it’s not properly policed.

“As much as anything, it’s an occupational health and safety issue,” he said.

“Players have no idea that a member of the crowd is suddenly moving around in the middle of frenetic play.

“This just can’t happen.”

In the match itself, the Crows came in as heavy favourites but Geelong made a hot start, kicking six goals to three in a dominant opening term.

The Crows managed to briefly get in front in the third quarter, but Geelong held steady to run out 14.12 (96) to 11.11 (77) winners.

The Cats have won their first two games of the new season, while Adelaide is yet to taste victory.
