Scott Pendlebury could miss a month of football after Collingwood confirm a bicep tear

Collingwood has been dealt a hammer blow to its AFL premiership defence after a shock injury reveal for a former captain.

'Rat Pack' members Heath Shaw and Dale Thomas hit back at Nick Riewoldt

A minor issue has turned into a major one for Collingwood and superstar Scott Pendlebury who is set to miss the next month with a partially torn bicep tendon.

The Magpies confirmed the shock news on Friday after the former captain had been ruled out of his team’s clash with the Western Bulldogs on Friday night after failing to get through training this week.

Pendlebury, 36, hurt himself in last week’s draw with Fremantle and it’s not only a blow to the club’s premiership defence but also puts at risk his chances of breaking Brent Harvey’s AFL games record of 432 games.

“Scott was cleared to train on Wednesday and while he got through most of the session, it was during the last tackling drill where he tested it and felt soreness return in that bicep. Further assessment including an MRI revealed a partial tendon tear of the bicep muscle,” Pies fitness boss Jarrod Wade said

“It’s a slight setback for Scott who will rehabilitate his bicep over the coming weeks, and we expect to see him return to full fitness following our bye in Round 15.

“Scott is the ultimate professional and in positive news for him, he will be able to keep his general fitness and remain on a running program during his recovery.”

Pendlebury would need to play on beyond 2025 to break Harvey’s record. It’s understood he wants to play on in 2025, needing only six games to reach the 400 game barrier.

He becomes the 165th player on Collingwood’s injury list which includes Jordan De Goey who is a month away with an abdominal tear, ruckman Mason Cox who has a medial ligament injury, forward Jamie Elliott is battling a vascular issue in his leg, and Brody Mihocek is out for 2-4 weeks with a hamstring sprain.
