SA footy club Gaza Eagles’ disgusting shower fine sparks storm

A footy club has been blasted over its “misogynistic” list of player fines, which includes penalties related to showers and girlfriends.

A club in the Adelaide Footy League has come under fire over a “fines list” drawn up by the playing group for the 2025 season.

CODE Sports reports the Gaza Football Club, which competes in division five of the Adelaide competition, has been blasted by a “disgusted” former committee member over the highly controversial list.

FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer.

Among the fines that would apparently be handed to Eagles players are regulations related to showering in the nude, vomiting and public moves with a partner.

CODE states the club issued a verbal warning to the senior playing group over the list, but it is alleged no other disciplinary action was handed out.

The 14 ‘rules’ on the list, which you can see below, include a $50 fine “if you don’t get the wand out in the shower” and a $10 penalty for a “public display of affection”.

The former committee member, who wanted to remain anonymous, left the club over the scandal.

“I was disgusted,” they told CODE Sports. “There were meetings held following the incidents and a possible notification to the League and then to child services was tabled because there were under 18s involved.

“But I got the sense that there wasn’t going to be any notification made and that it would all get swept under the rug.

“No one really mentioned any of it again for a while and when they eventually addressed the playing group it was just a light talk – to my knowledge there was no warning, no punishment for players or coaches, no repercussions, no disciplinary action.

“All of this was the final straw for a couple of us.”

The ex-committee member went on to label the club’s culture as “misogynistic” and rued a missed opportunity to make a stand.

Gaza FC, which was established in 1903 according to its website, also has a women’s team and is affiliated with junior boys and girls teams in the SANFL competition.

The club previously released a statement to CODE Sports stating the safety and wellbeing of club members “has always been our highest priority” and the incident “does not align with its values or expectations of its members”.

The incident is another blow to the Eagles, who were found guilty in February last year of 223 salary cap breaches between 2018 and 2022 by the SA Football Commission.

The breaches led to a whopping $186,000 fine and the docking of six premiership points.

Former Gaza president Don Rosella was also found guilty of breaches in the 2021 and 2022 seasons and suspended from holding any official club role for five years.

“It’s going to cost the club quite a bit and it’s going to take them many years to recover from these sorts of poor decisions that were made,” SANFL executive football manager Matt Duldig said the time.
