NORTH Launceston coach Taylor Whitford says his Bombers are on the rise and he wants them to pass two more major tests before they hit their mid-season bye next weekend _ Glenorchy at KGV today and Launceston at UTas Stadium on Wednesday.
The Northern Bombers have stumbled only once this season when they lost to cross-town power Launceston at Windsor Park in round two.
Since then they have accounted for Clarence, Lauderdale and the Tigers to sit second on the ladder.
Next cab off the rank are the Magpies.
“Our win over Kingborough puts us in a good position now,” Whitford said.
“We’ve got two games until our bye – basically our halfway point of the year.
“We’ve got Glenorchy, and they are always hard to beat at KGV, and then Launceston after a four-day break _ so two big ones to jump into our bye, which is a really good thing.
“It’s good to be playing Glenorchy at Glenorchy and Launceston after a four day break to see where we are at going into the bye.
“We are starting to build some really good momentum behind us now and hopefully we can put in some more really good performances.”
After doing penance in the Development League, Bart McCulloch has kicked seven goals in his past two senior games and the Bombers’ towering forward will present a big challenge to the Glenorchy backline.
“It is a good sign that Bart can go back to the Development League and re-capture his form, come in and have an impact straight away,” Whitford said.
“He was really good at Lauderdale in tough conditions and he was really good, nice and clean, in the wet against Kingborough.
“That’s a really good sign for our group.”
