THERE’S bad news for the Tigers heading into their TSL clash with reigning premier North Launceston at the Twin Ovals on Saturday with the Northern Bombers planning to get better as the finals get closer.
Bombers coach Taylor Whitford has demanded his side recalibrate its radar after several weeks of forward line inefficiency, in which it kicked 10.8 from 41 inside 50s in a nine-point win over Clarence and 10.17 from 52 inside 50s in a 10-point win over Lauderdale.
Despite a tight contest, Whitford was happy to rack up another win over the southern Bombers last Saturday.
“The game was played in our half more of the time but we couldn’t get the scoreboard ticking over – not the goals column, it ticked over in the points column a fair bit,” Whitford said.
“It was a pretty good performance by our guys but to only win by 10 points probably didn’t reflect how I thought the game felt – we had 10 more scoring shots and 14 more inside 50s.
“It’s no secret that’s happened over the past couple of weeks so we need to work on our efficiency going forward and get better in that area.”
The Tigers, who are hunting a club-record fourth consecutive win, beat North Launceston in a boil-over at the Twin Ovals last year.
Whitford relishes the challenge.
“We’re getting them at their best and at home, which is really good. They play that ground really well,” he said.
“We lost there last year and they’re in good form, so it’s going to be a tough road trip for us so hopefully we can apply ourselves really well.”
