THEY partied like it was “1999” at SFL club Brighton on Saturday after the Robins tasted victory for the first time in more than two years and heralded a remarkable comeback from recess in 2019.

Brighton’s stunning 44-point win over Sorell brought tears of joy to the club faithful.

Senior coach Byron Howard was delighted with their first-up result.

“The club’s last senior win was May 27, 2017, and we were in recess last year, so it was a good day,” said the former North Hobart champion full-forward.

Brighton spearhead Connor Salter, 22, kicked five goals in the memorable win.

“There are only three players still on the list who played in that last win,” Salter said.

“There was a lot of excitement, especially for the players and officials who have been at the club for so long, and the people who help out around the place like Phil Dodge, who has lived red and blue for many years.

“It was great to get it for them.

Salter’s “Fab Five” was a personal-best in senior footy.

“It helps when the team plays so well and you get on the end of a few,” he said.

“It was a good team win, and the midfield set me up all day.”

Brighton travels to Huonville on Saturday to play the Lions.

“Last year’s grand finalist, it’s a good test to see where we are placed,” Salter said.
