Meg McDonald to lead revamped 3AW football coverage in 2026

Ex-Cats AFLW captain Meg McDonald has landed the top job at 3AW football as the station overhauls its commentary team for the 2026 season.

Former Geelong AFLW captain Meg McDonald will head up a revamped 3AW football coverage next season as the station shakes up its commentary line up.

Leading AFL caller Tim Lane will scale back his on air roles next season while Matt Granland, Shane McInnes and Bruce Eva will expand their calling duties.

Eva will take over Lane as host of the flagship Saturday Footy Preview program.

McDonald has been appointed as the new executive producer of ‘3AW football’ and will be responsible for the station’s football programming.

McDonald has replaced Luca Gonano who moved into a new role last month as head of 3AW News and Sport.

3AW station manager Stephen Beers said McDonald: “is a proven leader, an exceptional football mind, and her experience both on-field as a decorated captain and off-field in media and communications is unparalleled.”

McDonald has been working with the station during the 2025 season and has been a co-host with Cameron Ling on Geelong’s in-house podcast ‘To the Final Bell’.

She said she was deeply honoured and will commence the full-time role next year.

“I have admired the voices of 3AW for as long as I can remember and been a listener for longer still,” McDonald said.

“It’s been my great pleasure to get to know and love the 3AW Football team as it’s embraced and supported me in recent years.”
