THE Huonville Lions are ravenous for redemption heading into their SFL match against Brighton at Huonville Oval on Saturday after a loss to Dodges Ferry that went down like a lead balloon.
The Lions’ pride was damaged but they are determined to hit back against the Robins, who go into the match buoyed by a confidence-boosting win.
“We didn’t play the way we wanted to against Dodges. We just rolled over in the end, which is not what we’ve been about for the past few years so it was disappointing,” said star onballer James McIndoe.

Huonville Lions vs Brighton (Reserves)
“We always have a tough game against them. They are a tough opposition and a strong contested team and we normally look forward to playing them.
“Last week we were a young team because we had five or six out, and not using that as an excuse, they were just better on the day.”
Huonville regained key forwards Ethan Brock from Covid isolation Mickey Paul from a hamstring injury.
“That’s two big forwards coming back in. When you have one key forward out of a team you struggle to kick goals let alone your two main ones,” McIndoe said.
“They will be handy ins, and Dale Thorpe will come back in. He wins a lot of ball in the midfield and does a lot of work on the inside that people don’t notice.”
Huonville plans to take out last week’s frustration on Brighton.
“We don’t want to lose two games in a row, especially the way we played last week _ we don’t want to make a habit of it,” McIndoe said.
Coach Brady Jones led by example as well as some of the younger Lions.
“’Budgie’ was awesome in the middle, he just tried all day,” McIndoe said.
“Young guy Connor Lovell made his debut and he didn’t take a backward step. He’s not a bloke who’s going to go out and get 30 touches but his contested ability, tackling and second efforts, it was great to watch in a young player coming into a senior team.”
After a 141-point win over Sorell, reigning premier Cygnet faces Lindisfarne fresh off the bye at Anzac Park.
The Port’s forwards Joe Direen (seven goals) and James Zeitzen (six goals) had a field day at last week and will take some stopping by the Two Blues’ defence.
Hobart had a frustrating loss to New Norfolk after being held goalless in the third term, and will be looking to do better in their date with Sorell at Pembroke Park.
Claremont has a home clash with New Norfolk at Abbotsfield Park and the Sharks have a bye.
