GOLD Coast’s Tasmanian midfielder Aaron Hall has redeemed himself and will return to the AFL for Sunday’s clash against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium.
Hall was dropped for the Suns’ round 12 trip to the MCG to play Richmond due to ball use and defensive issues.
But he bounced back with a strong performance in the NEAFL to put his hand up for a rapid recall.
Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft said Hall had embraced the directives from senior coach Rodney Eade and worked on his game.
“The reserves coaches were really pleased with the way Aaron played, based on the feedback from the coaching staff,’’ Ashcroft said.
Hall was lauded as the most improved player in the competition in the early rounds.
But as the injury-riddled Suns spiralled down the ladder, so too did Hall’s form and coaches identified some of the problems of the past returning.
Getting the football has never been an issue for the Tasmanian product but what he then does with it – and what he does without it – has been the issue.
But two games in the reserves were enough to show coaches he had learned his lessons and is ready to step back into the big time.
Running defender Adam Saad has overcome a hamstring injury and is set to join Hall as an inclusion.
Mitch Hallahan and Dan Currie are also in the mix for the Suns, who are on a nine-game losing streak. But Kade Kolodjashnij (concussion) will miss the trip to his native state while Sean Lemmens (hamstring) and Jesse Lonergan (illness) are doubtful.
Hawthorn will be without star Cyril Rioli, who will return to the Northern Territory to attend his grandfather’s funeral.
He also missed the Round 8 match-up against Fremantle to spend time with his grandfather.
Hawks skipper Luke Hodge remains a 50-50 chance to return this weekend.
A knee injury has kept the dual Norm Smith Medallist sidelined but a finger injury could stop him from taking on the Suns.
