Gold Coast co-captain Jarrod Witts has extended his stay at the club, confident the Suns can “challenge” for an AFL premiership.
Witts, who made 40 appearances for Collingwood before joining the Suns ahead of the 2017 season, has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the Gold Coast until at least the end of the 2026 campaign.
“I love this club and I’ve made some incredible memories with the great people here,” the 31-year-old ruckman said.
With triple premiership-winning coach Damien Hardwick now in charge, the Suns have won their first two games of the season ahead of Sunday’s clash against the Western Bulldogs in Ballarat.
“Looking ahead, I’ve got great belief in the people within our footy club and I see the drive to improve constantly,” said Witts, who has made 127 AFL appearances for the Suns.
“We’re all incredibly motivated to earn on-field success. I want to play in finals in front of our supporters and challenge for it all.”
Suns general manager of player talent and strategy Craig Cameron said the club was “thrilled” to retain the services of Witts.
“Jarrod has played an integral role throughout the last eight years at the Gold Coast Suns, both on and off the field, having served in seven of those seasons as captain,” Cameron said.
