GLENORCHY stars Gen Sullivan and Brieanna Barwick have experienced the highs and lows of a TSLW grand final so the Magpie maestros hope to be on the winning side against last year’s runner-up Launceston in their premiership showdown at UTAS Stadium tomorrow.
As captain of the only team from the south in the three State League grand finals tomorrow, Sullivan believes that her relatively new playing group can find the right chemistry on the day.
Beating Launceston twice in the home-and-away series, winning their last encounter at UTAS Stadium against North Launceston in the penultimate round, and downing reigning premier Clarence to make it to the big day, adds up to a confidence-boost for the Pies.
“We play for each other, and when we do that we really shine, and each game we are building toward something special,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan, who rucks for the Pies, said winning would mean the world to her team.
“For me, I could cry just thinking about it,” she said.
“Over the past couple of years we’ve been on both ends of the scale – we lost a grand final in 2017 and we won the grand final in 2018.
“So Brie and I personally know the heartache of losing and I don’t want that for any of our girls.
“We’ve worked too hard for that and our coach, who has dedicated a lot of his personal time to us, deserves it too.”
Barwick, Glenorchy’s vice-captain, says her nerves are on edge.
“But the nerves are outweighed by the excitement and thrill of getting into a grand final,” she said.
“That’s what we set out to do at the start of the year so it’s reward for effort.”
Glenorchy will hit the road tonight to prepare for the grand final.
