Jeremy Cameron was stretchered off the field after being knocked out by a teammate in the early stages of Geelong’s 78 (11.12) to 63 (8.15) win over Melbourne on Thursday night.

The Cats kicked the first two goals of the Round 15 clash at GMHBA Stadium before Gary Rohan collected Cameron in a nasty accidental collision during a marking contest in the first quarter.

Cameron was immediately knocked out cold and the game was stopped while he received medical attention.

Hamish McLachlan said in commentary on Channel 7: “A lot of concern in the middle of the ground for Jeremy Cameron. Gary Rohan is there with him.

“This is really concerning for him and Geelong.”

Abbey Holmes said: “It was a big collision. I heard it down here on ground level and he has not moved from that position. They knew straight away it was bad.”

Alister Nicholson added: “The Geelong players very quickly across to Gary Rohan, who naturally would have been a bit rattled by what he’s seen.”

Fox Footy’s Sarah Jones described it as a “sickening injury” and an “awful collision”.

The game was paused for 10 minutes while medical staff carefully lifted Cameron onto a stretcher and took him off the field in a medicab.

The Cats spearhead gave a thumbs up as he was carted off the ground before being taken to hospital.

Geelong activated their substitute, with Jack Bowes coming on to replace Cameron.

Soon after the incident, Rohan kicked Geelong’s third goal as the Cats led the Demons 22 (3.4) to 13 (2.1) at quarter time.

Melbourne fought back in the second term to lead by one point (32-31) at halftime.

The Cats sit 10th on the ladder and are desperate for a win in a clash between the last two AFL premiers.
