Five Scotch College students drafted as All Saints Anglican School challenges Melbourne private schools’ hold on the top

An elite Melbourne private school has recorded its best draft haul in more than a decade – but its position at the top is being challenged. See where each draftee went to school, plus the state-by-state breakdown.

Prestigious Melbourne school Scotch College has recorded its best AFL draft result in more than a decade with five graduates finding new football homes.

Louis Emmett (Western Bulldogs), Sam Allen (West Coast), Jack Ison (Carlton) and Will Darcy (Western Bulldogs) were all selected in this year’s national draft after being part of the Scotch College Program this year.

Interestingly, Emmett, Allen and Darcy also came through the same community club at Glen Iris.

A fifth Scotch College product, Riley Onley (Melbourne), went on to find a home in the rookie draft.

WHO’S ROUND ONE READY? EVERY DRAFTEES CHASING EARLY DEBUTS

Scotch College’s haul of 2025 draftees was the biggest of any school in the country, but All Saints Anglican School on the Gold Coast came close to taking the title.

Gold Coast Suns Academy members Zeke Uwland, Beau Addinsall and Koby Coulson all found their way from All Saints to the Suns, while schoolmate Kalani White was secured by Melbourne as a rookie.

Palm Beach Currumbin State High School on the Gold Coast had two graduates drafted, with Dylan Patterson and Jai Murray also joining the Suns as first-round selections.

Sam Cumming (Richmond) and Matt LeRay (Hawthorn) both hail from Prince Alfred College in Adelaide, while Melbourne’s Rowville Sports Academy celebrated two top-20 picks in Xavier Taylor (Melbourne) and Lachy Dovaston (North Melbourne).

Carey Grammar also had a pair of draftees this year in Max Kondogiannis (Essendon) and Zac McCarthy (Collingwood), with both also listing their local club as Old Carey Grammarians.

Best mates Adam Sweid (Fremantle) and Hussien El Achkar (Essendon) had played together at local club Pascoe Vale since under-14s but now find themselves on different sides of the country.

A total of 60 selections were made in this year’s national draft, including two AFL players being re-drafted in Jake Stringer (GWS Giants) and Ryan Byrnes (St Kilda).

Five new AFL players earned opportunities in the rookie draft, while a further eight players were signed as category A or category B rookies ahead of the rookie draft.
