Betts’ wife Anna is from Melbourne and her family remains in Victoria, where the couple have wanted to move back to at some stage.
Betts paid tribute to his wife in 2016.
“Annie gave up everything — and it was hard for her (on leaving Melbourne when Betts was traded to the Crows at the end of 2013),” Betts said.
“She had a great job. She had all her friends outside football. She had to leave everything because of my career.”
Complicating any move is the final year of Betts’ Adelaide contract, which is worth more than $500,000 a season.
The exciting goalsneak has received no contract offer from either the Blues or the Suns, but would almost certainly have to take a pay cut if he chose Carlton.
Betts kicked 290 goals for the Blues between 2005 and 2013 after being taken in the 2004 pre-season draft.
He was idolised by Carlton fans who would welcome his return with open arms.
