THE Tasmania Devils went within a whisker of a NAB League boil over in Melbourne yesterday when they lost their wildcard clash with the Calder Cannons by a goal.
Had they silenced the Cannons, the Devils, who finished 12th after the home-and-away series, would have advanced into the NAB League finals to meet one of the top four sides.
Instead, they kicked inaccurately and lost the game 9.9 (63) to 7.15 (57).
“To push a team that finish fifth on the ladder was a great reflection of the spirit and courage of the boys,” said Devils coach Adrian Fletcher.
“We pushed a really good team and out-played them for most of the day.
“The scoreboard wasn’t a true indication of how well the boys played.”
Jared Dakin starred for the Devils in his first game back from a shoulder reconstruction.
