Collingwood’s Taylor Adams has officially requested a trade to the Sydney Swans.

The Magpies confirmed Adams had requested the move to the Swans in the upcoming AFL trade period, which begins on Monday.

Collingwood said in a statement: “Taylor is contracted until the end of 2024 and is a required player and leader. The Club will discuss the request with Sydney.”

Adams attended Collingwood’s best and fairest on Friday night but is set to move to Sydney on a three-year deal as he searches long term security. His current deal with Collingwood ends at the end of 2024.

Adams was one of the hard luck stories of Collingwood’s premiership triumph after he ruled himself out of selection as he recovered from a hamstring injury.

In heartbreaking scenes, the veteran midfielder was in tears on the MCG after the Magpies defeated the Brisbane Lions by four points to win the AFL Grand Final last month.

Along with John Noble and Dan McStay, Adams was extremely unlucky to miss out on a premiership medal.

The 30-year-old joined Collingwood in 2014 and has played 175 games for the Magpies across 10 seasons.

He had played every game this season before injury ruled him out of the preliminary final and Grand Final.

The news of Adams’ trade request is a huge boost for the Swans, who have already confirmed they have recruited Demons youngster James Jordon, who was the unused substitute in Melbourne’s 2021 premiership win.

The Swans are emerging as the big winners of the AFL trade period, with premiership defender Joel Hamling joining from the Fremantle Dockers and ruckman Brodie Grundy set to make the move from the Demons.

The recruitment of Adams is a massive coup for Sydney’s midfield, which will be weakened early next season as co-captain Callum Mills recovers from a nasty shoulder injury he suffered on Mad Monday.
