CODE AFL Show: St Kilda in line to make draft play for SA young gun Jevan Phillipou

Ross Lyon attended last month’s draft combine just to interview a single player. Find out who St Kilda is considering an ambitious pick swap play for in the latest episode of the CODE AFL Show.

St Kilda coach Ross Lyon dropped in at the national draft combine last month, but there was only one player he wanted to meet with.

The sole interview Lyon conducted at the combine was with likely first-round pick Jevan Phillipou, according to CODE Sports’ draft expert Chris Cavanagh.

After their aggressive trade and free agency period yielded four new recruits, St Kilda will approach this draft armed only with picks 50 and 65, but Cavanagh says the Saints might have one more surprise in them this off-season.

As it prepares to match bids on talented duo Harry Dean and Jack Ison, Carlton is poised to put its No. 11 pick on the table – a selection right in the hitting zone for the younger brother of Mattaes Phillipou.

Adelaide also has interest in acquiring the pick, which was one of three pick swaps forecast in his final phantom draft before the opening night on November 19.

Cavanagh, Dan Batten and Ed Bourke discussed the current draft pecking order, the bolters and sliders, and the first-round talent clubs are expected to target in this week’s CODE AFL Show. WATCH IT IN FULL BELOW
