Carlton has suffered a blow ahead of a must-win game against arch rival Essendon, but a debutant will get his chance on King’s Birthday eve. See the full round 13 teams here.

Carlton has ruled out Harry McKay for Sunday night’s clash with the Bombers, paving the way for a debut for Hudson O’Keeffe.

The 20-year-old ruck will play his first game after McKay failed to overcome a lingering knee issue.

McKay missed main training on Thursday, but failed to pass a fitness test during Saturday’s captain’s run.

O’Keeffe has been on Carlton’s list since the start of 2023 when he signed in the SSP period.

After McKay was ruled out, O’Keeffe was told he would be debuting.

Coach Michael Voss told O’Keeffe on Saturday.

“You’ve worked really hard. The thing we love about you the most is it’s not about the kicks, marks and handballs – it’s going to be about how you compete,” he said.

“That’s your real strength – these guys will love playing with you over a long period of time, I know it.”

It means Carlton wil make five changes to the side that lost to the Giants before the bye, with Alex Cincotta set to play his first game of the season.

The mature-aged recruit has been sidelined throughout 2025 after pre-season surgery to correct a hip issue, but will feature for the Blues.

Jack Silvagni, Zac Williams and Orazio Fantasia will also all come into the side.

Harry O’Farrell has been omitted after a pre-bye debut, while Lachie Young, Jaxon Binns and Corey Durdin have also been dropped.

North Melbourne will recall Robert Hansen Jr for its home game at Bunbury against West Coast, having confirmed on Thursday Griffin Logue would replace the injured Aidan Corr.

Fin Maley has made way for Hansen jr.

West Coast has brought back Jamie Cripps after he recovered from his injury, with Noah Long making way for the veteran forward.
