Collingwood star Jordan De Goey’s New York court case has been adjourned until January.

The star forward’s legal representation on Thursday morning requested a motion schedule for trial, which has been granted.

The matter has been relisted for a response and decision on January 18, 2022, The Herald Sunreports.

The 25-year-old is charged with kicking and punching a man at a Halloween party inside a New York nightclub in October. He had previously pleaded not guilty.

In a statement released in November, his lawyer Jacob Kaplan said De Goey “intends to vigorously defend himself against these unwarranted charges”.

New York prosecutors withdrew initial charges alleging that De Goey had forcibly touched a woman during the nightclub incident.

De Goey, who originally travelled to the US to improve his fitness during the off-season, has been stood down by Collingwood. He returned to Australia last week.

Despite his agent requesting for De Goey to be granted permission to return to training with teammates, he is still “not permitted to train or play with Collingwood or make use of club resources, staff or facilities”.

Collingwood said it will not make any decisions on his future until an outcome to the New York court case is reached, or a more complete account of events is established.

He remains on full pay.

Channel 7 journalist Mitch Cleary posted on Twitter De Goey “won’t return to Collingwood immediately”.

Collingwood coach Craig McRae last month could not give a categorical answer on whether De Goey will ever play for Collingwood again.

“Time will tell on that, there’s a bit to play out,” the new coach said.

“It’s a little bit premature to say whether he’ll be back here training and the like. But one thing I will say is (I’m) just touching base with Jordy regularly to make sure he’s OK.

“Over my journey working with some great coaches I’ve learnt that you just want to make sure the person’s OK and care for the person first.

“One thing I’ve probably learned over this period in particular is to just be patient and let the facts come before you pass judgment.”

McRae stressed it was important for the legal process to run its course before the club makes any decision on De Goey’s future.

De Goey’s current contract with the Pies is due to expire at the end of 2022.
