De Goey ‘stood down’ after alleged assault

Instagram video has emerged of AFL star Jordan De Goey inside a New York nightclub before his arrest over an alleged assault.

Collingwood Magpies star Jordan De Goey has been stood down indefinitely after he was arrested and charged with forcible touching and assault following an alleged nightclub incident.

Video of De Goey partying inside a New York nightclub was posted to Instagram on Saturday just hours before he was taken into police custody.

The Collingwood Football Club released a brief statement on Sunday morning, declaring the club is yet to speak to the footballer.

“Collingwood is aware of a report involving Jordan De Goey. The club is attempting to contact Jordan, who is in the USA, to determine the facts of the matter,” the club’s statement claimed.

“The club will not be in a position to comment further until it has done so.”

But on Sunday evening, reports emerged that De Goey had been “stood down indefinitely” according to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph and 7 News reporter Mitch Cleary.

Collingwood also sent a statement soon after.

“Collingwood today stood Jordan De Goey down from its AFL program indefinitely,” the statement began.

“The club will continue to pay De Goey under the terms of his contract until such time as an outcome to proceedings against him in the United States is reached or a more complete account of events is established.

“In the interim, De Goey will not be permitted to train or play with Collingwood or make use of club resources, staff or facilities.

“Collingwood is deeply disappointed by reports and events of the last 48 hours involving De Goey in the US. Given the circumstances, the club believes it is appropriate to remove him from the AFL program.

“Collingwood has been in contact with De Goey and his management today and has explained to both its decision.”

The AFL has also released a statement confirming the league’s integrity unit will investigate the alleged incident once further details are confirmed.

“The AFL has been contacted by the Collingwood Football Club and made aware of a report involving player Jordan De Goey, who is currently overseas,” the statement read.

“Collingwood is attempting to contact Jordan to obtain further information. The AFL Integrity Department will look into the matter once more information is obtained, until then the AFL is not in a position to make comment at this stage.”

The report claims police have released a statement to allege De Goey was partying at the PHD Rooftop Lounge at the Dream Hotel at 2am local time on Saturday.

The police statement alleges De Goey and a friend Luke Dyson approached a 35-year-old woman on the dancefloor where they are alleged to have groped her.

A statement from the NYPD said De Goey had been charged with “forcible touching” as he is alleged to have “grabbed buttocks and vagina outside clothing without authority to do so of a 35-year-old female”.

The Australian pair are alleged to have become involved in a physical altercation with a 37-year-old man, who is a friend of the woman involved, according to the New York Daily News report.

The man was reportedly left with split lip after Dyson allegedly struck him with a glass bottle.

De Goey and Dyson were reportedly arrested after the woman called police through the 911 emergency services hotline.

De Goey and Dyson fronted a New York judge on Sunday with reports the 25-year-old AFL star was wearing a bathrobe as a Halloween outfit.

De Goey pleaded not guilty and is due to return to court on December 8, which is two days after Collingwood’s senior players are scheduled to return to training.

De Goey is required to check in once a week by phone and must appear in court in person.

The Herald Sun reported that even if De Goey accepted a six year probation for forcible touching, a charge which carries a maximum one year jail sentence, it would be categorised as a sex crime.

Dyson is a high profile tattoo artist with 75,000 followers on Instagram.

He posted videos of their night out together on his Instagram Stories — showing De Goey dancing with his shirt off.

The Collingwood star has been in America as part of a special pre-season training program.

According to Channel 7 reporter Mitch Cleary, Collingwood had not aware of the incident earlier on Sunday morning.
