Four SuperCoach takeaways from Carlton v Hawthorn
Tom De Koning is still a must-have, massive concern for Will Day and a sneaky premium option down back. Here’s what SuperCoaches learned from Hawthorn’s win over Carlton.
They’ve been dubbed the Hollywood Hawks in pre-season and if Hawthorn continue to take part in those types of games, we’re more than happy to see them in the primetime slots.
Eventually they ran out 20-point winners in a highly entertaining contest against a much improved contest.
Here’s a look at a few of our SuperCoach takeaways from Thursday night’s action?
DE KONING A MUST HAVE
Another positive score for the Carlton big man but it’s not enough to use the captain’s loophole this weekend. After having 72 SC points at the main break, he finished with 104. A bit of blame probably lies with the fact he was stuck on the bench for about 10 minutes when the game hung in the balance.
KARL AMON A MUST CONSIDER
The Hawthorn number 10’s season already reads 100, 122 and 101. If you’re looking for a point of difference in the coming weeks, keep an eye on the silky left footer. At $493k, the ex-Port Adelaide player is only in one per cent of teams. Maybe keep an eye on him against the Giants before the Hawks bye in round 4.
CERRA OUR MID-PRICE SAVIOUR?
We suggest this with a degree of caution. Blues midfielder Cerra has registered back-to-back tons to start the season and looks in superb form. The big question mark over the ex-Freo man is whether his hamstrings can continue to hold up.
WHERE DO WE SIT ON DAY AND SICILY?
Let’s start with the man in the number 12. Is it time to take his price increase and look elsewhere? When he tore the Swans to shreds with 148 points in Opening Round, we all couldn’t include him into our sides quick enough. Scores of 77 and 79 have followed. Opposition coaches are putting more time into him. It’s no easier against a Giants midfielder (especially Toby Bedford). Coaches with him need to make a call.
Sicily scored 92 then 109 and now 95 against the Blues. Sam Mitchell loves to swing him forward, where it can feel like he’s gone missing. He’s thriving with his new mates down back in Tom Barrass and Josh Battle, but the consistent uncertainty over his position is frustrating for us SC lovers.
