Collingwood superstar Jordan de Goey will be forced to sit out main training this week as he recovers from some lingering bone bruising.

The brilliant ballwinner will be restricted to the pool and the gym after clashing knees in a training mishap on Wednesday.

He had scans on Friday which showed no structural damage but revealed some bruising around the knee which will sideline him for about one week.

While the latest setback is a frustrating one, it should not sideline the goal kicker for the club’s first pre-season games against Gold Coast and Brisbane on February 20 in Queenslsnd.

De Goey is expecting to be available to play some part in the first hit out which will include two periods against the Suns and two periods against the Lions.

However the Pies will be extremely cautious not to risk one of the club’s most impactful and important players if the soreness remains ahead of the season-opener against GWS Giants in Opening Round on March 9.

Superstar Nick Daicos is also coming back from a foot injury which has restricted him over summer but the club is confident he will be ready to play game time in the pre-season matches also.

De Goey had set himself for a big year after overcoming severe groin and hamstring injuries which derailed his 2024 season and started the summer in Doha on an overseas training camp.

He rejoined the main training group in January but will spend more time off legs this week in a bid to overcome the latest bone bruising and soreness heading into the practice games.

The Magpies are desperate for de Goey to return to his explosive and matchwinning best as Collingwood strive to catapult back into premiership contention in 2025.

Coach Craig McRae is in the process of rejigging the midfield mix this year after picking up GWS ballwinner Harry Perryman to play alongside Nick Daicos and De Goey onball.
