AFL: Keidean Coleman signs a two-year contract extension with the Brisbane Lions

Buoyed by his move to the backline, Brisbane Lions young gun Keidean Coleman has extended his time at the AFL club.

Having seemingly found a permanent spot in Brisbane’s backline, Keidean Coleman has had little hesitation in extending his stay at the Lions by a further two years.

Coleman, a 21-year-old product of the Lions Academy, will remain a Brisbane player until at least the end of the 2024 season.

“For me it was a no-brainer to re-sign,” said Coleman, who played 18 games in his breakthrough second season with the club.

“It was the club in general and the culture they have created that made it such a simple decision,’’

Coleman’s 2021 season included a move to the backline, where he was a standout during the Lions’ finals campaign.

“I understand the game a bit better, and I’m just enjoying my game down in the backline,” he said.

“But whether it’s in the forward line or the backline, I’m happy to keep learning on the field.

“Everyone helps each other out ... that is the kind of environment I want to be in.

“The investment of time into people is tremendous.”

Lions football manager Danny Daly predicted a “bright future” for Coleman in the AFL

“We are excited that he has re-signed with us until the end of 2024 season,’’ Daly said.

“He has shown great improvement over the last two years and was able to cement a spot in our backline in the back half of the 2021 season and play some quality football in that time.

“We are excited in what lies ahead for both the club and for ‘Kiddy’ in the coming years.’’
