Father-son prospect Levi Ashcroft didn’t attend the national draft combine as he recovered from post-season shoulder surgery – but he didn’t need to, either.
The classy midfielder’s performances at every level this season have him at the leading draft prospect in the country and he has already nominated to join his older brother Will at the Lions.
We’ve got Ashcroft at No.1 in our latest draft rankings as the countdown to November 20 heats up. However, that doesn’t mean that he will be the No.1 pick in November.
Rival clubs often let father-son and Academy prospects drop back a few places from where they should be selected.
You only have to look at Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos, who did not attract a bid until pick 4 in 2021.
Richmond currently holds the prized No.1 selection and is widely tipped to use it on Sam Lalor or Harvey Langford.
But fellow midfielders Jagga Smith and Finn O’Sullivan are also in the mix at the top of the order.
After naming our top 50 draft prospects in August, we’ve gone with an expanded top 60 for October.
Big movers include Alixzander Tauru (No.30 to No.12) and Ollie Hannaford (unrated to No.27), while some leading VFL prospects in Sam Davidson and Riley Bice have also made their way onto the list.
This is not a phantom draft (we will one of those in November) but is instead a rough guide on how we have rated the players in the 2024 draft pool, after speaking with club scouts and talent programs throughout the year.
