AFL 2022: Geelong completes pick swap with Brisbane to climb draft order in bid to satisfy Collingwood for Ollie Henry

Ollie Henry’s playing future remains in limbo as the club he wants to join, Geelong, tries to appease his current club, Collingwood.

Geelong has handed over a swag of draft picks to Brisbane in a bid to increase its offer for wantaway Magpie Ollie Henry.

The Cats offloaded picks 38, 48 and 55 in this year’s draft plus future second- and fourth-round selections for the Lions’ No.25.

Collingwood already rejected Geelong’s modest proposal of pick 38 for Henry, a first-round selection two years ago who kicked 21 goals in 15 games this past season.

Whether or not Pies list boss Graham Wright will accept the higher pick remains to be seen, given they have been steadfast so far that a first-round selection must be involved.

That future second-round selection was touted as Gold Coast-bound in the contentious Jack Bowes deal, meaning something else will need to be involved now as the AFL gets involved.

The Cats were involved in both completed trades on Friday, having earlier sent pick 18 to the Giants for out-of-contract midfielder Tanner Bruhn, who, like Henry, is a Geelong Falcons product.

It is a significant win for Brisbane, which amasses an extra 218 draft points this year to help match bids for boom father-son prospects Will Ashcroft and Jaspa Fletcher and improves its 2023 hand.

Ashcroft is the consensus No.1 pick and fellow under-18 All-Australian Fletcher could also attract a first-round bid from a rival club.

The Lions still have a riddle to solve to satisfy the Western Bulldogs’ demand of two first-round picks for Josh Dunkley.

The Bulldogs were unimpressed with Brisbane sliding from pick 15 to 21 as part of a separate trade with the Giants on Wednesday and are threatening to make Dunkley walk the pre-season draft gauntlet.

There could yet be further wheeling and dealing from the Lions, who could also present Dogs list manager Sam Power with 21, a future first-round selection and some sweeteners on top.

The negotiations will extend through the weekend, with no official trades able to be completed until Monday.
