Adelaide and Port will have to share the billing with a Melbourne-Essendon match in a scheduling clash that is sure to water down the impact of both games.
The Crows-Port Showdown will kick-off at 7.50pm ACST at Adelaide Oval, and shown on Fox Footy.

It will be shown on Seven in South Australia, but won’t get national free to air coverage.
The Demons and Bombers clash is at the MCG and will start at 7.20pm AEST. The match will be broadcast by Channel 7.

As revealed by News Corp, the Adelaide-Port Adelaide rivalry will break new ground next year, with the AFL finally giving the game the prime time slot – scheduling the Crows home Showdown for April 1 in Round 3.
Travis Auld, the league’s executive general manager of finance, clubs and broadcasting, said the double up was to give clear air to the AFLW Grand Final.
“Yeah, I mean, ideally, you’d create clean-air games all the way through your rounds (but) it doesn’t exist, whether that’s a Friday night or a Saturday night. We’ve tried to provide some space between the two games,” he said
“I think the important point here is that we’re prioritising getting people back to the football and if you provide two clean-air games, one might be a little too early for some and one might be a little too late for others, so we’re trying to get that balance between the two.
“It’s a trial, we’ll see how it performs and I’m sure we’ll learn, like over the last couple of years, how the slot, that new concept, performs and respond accordingly.”
The last time there was a double-header in the marquee Friday night timeslot was in Round 10 1999.
Silvers said he wasn’t disheartened by the Crows home Showdown having to share the billing in the marquee timeslot, saying the club was happy to finally have secured one.
“I’m a glass-half-full type of person, we have been trying to secure a Friday night Showdown since we moved to Adelaide Oval so I see this as a victory not only for our members and fans but for the South Australian football community,” he said.
“I think with a Showdown on a Friday night the city will be abuzz.”
The dual Friday night games will be repeated in Round 8 when Port Adelaide’s home clash against the Western Bulldogs is alongside Fremantle hosting North Melbourne.
Silvers said he liked the idea.
“I think with marquee timeslots being in such demand and people wanting to get away from some of the lower drawing timeslots it actually makes sense,” he said.
It is the headline act of a Crows 2022 fixture considered one of the best in terms of who they play with Adelaide facing Port Adelaide, North Melbourne, Carlton, Collingwood and West Coast twice.
The Power’s home Showdown is slated for Round 23, the last game of the home and away season.
Port Adelaide general manager football Chris Davies said he was looking forward to the Friday night Showdown.
“Fantastic, obviously that’s Adelaide home game so we will hopefully win it,” he said.
He said he thought the presence of another game on the night wouldn’t detract from the match.
“I’m sure they (the Crows) had the conversation with the broadcasters and the AFL when they were asking for that,” he said.
“Our main priority will be to win that game, it will be a big game for us early on in our career.”
The Power have again secured a home game during the Anzac Round, against West Coast on April 23, but will have one of the more difficult fixtures with Port to play the Crows, Melbourne, Richmond, Geelong and Essendon twice.
“We’d rather it that way than the opposite, playing teams who have done well is the price you pay for being relatively successful in the minor round which we have been over the last couple of years,” he said.
The Power have games in seven different cities, including Alice Springs, Cairns and Hobart, in 2022 but Davies said that wouldn’t impact them at all.
Davies said Port was “really happy” with its fixtures but he did say the Power would like the AFL to look at giving them a home fixture to start the season from next year, with the last time Port Adelaide kicked off a season at Adelaide Oval in 2018.
“We would like the AFL to rectify that,” he said.
“I would imagine they would look at home and away on a year by year basis, I think our last home game to open the season was in 2018 and in Ken’s (Hinkley) time we have certainly been away a lot more than we are at home for the first fixture.”
The Power start their 2022 season at the Gabba against Brisbane.
