Stage one of Kingston Park, to be known as Kings Quarter, approved by Kingborough Council

The first part of a new residential subdivision at an old high school site has been approved by council – and it will come with a pretty lofty name.

THE first stage of a $300 million development set to transform the Kingborough region has been approved by the council.

One of the largest residential developments in decades, Kingston Park is seen as a game-changer for the area with the development of 360 homes, plus retail and commercial spaces.

Last year, the Kingborough Council announced Sydney company Traders In Purple as the development partner for Kingston Park, located at the site of the former high school which was closed and relocated in 2011. The entire project is expected to be completed in eight to 10 years.

Stage one, to be known as Kings Quarter, will include the construction of 67 three- and four-bedroom homes, a wellness centre with swimming pool and the already opened community hub and cafe.

Traders In Purple Tasmanian development director Jennifer Cooper said sales for Kings Quarter would begin early in the new year, with Knight Frank and Harcourts appointed as the selling agents.

Kingborough Mayor Dean Winter said the project was revitalising central Kingston.

“This residential development is already attracting significant interest and will provide jobs and economic growth for Kingborough,” he said.

“It also adds much-needed housing supply and options for people in greater Hobart.”

Cr Winter said the next stage would include development of commercial spaces, with the vision including a cinema and a major employer.
