THE Adhikari family remains optimistic of finding a home, despite a months-long search for rental accommodation in Hobart.

Bidur Adhikari, wife Sushma and 16-month-old daughter Shlesha attended an open home on Wednesday for a two-bedroom property at Bellerive.

At $365 a week, the home is at the top end of the family’s price range, and it’s a reasonable distance from Mr Adhikari’s job as a retail manager in Kingston.

Mr Adhikari said the family had looked at more than 50 properties in the past four months and had applied for many of them, but so far had not been approved for a home.

The family plans to apply for the Bellerive villa, but will be competing with applications from about 14 other groups of people who attended the viewing.

“I’m not sure why we’re not getting one, it’s pretty stressful at the moment,” Mr Adhikari said.

“I looked at properties in the Kingston/Blackmans Bay area, but there’s not many properties in the range that I can afford.”

The family is sharing a home with friends at the moment, but need to find somewhere within three weeks.

Despite the pressure, Mr Adhikari said he remained optimistic.

“I can’t quit, I can’t give up,” he said.
