$870,000 computer system fails – after just 15 minutes

An $870,000 government computer system intended to process Tasmanian renters’ bond deposits ran for just 15 minutes before crashing.

AN $870,000 government computer system intended to process Tasmanian renters’ bond deposits ran for just 15 minutes before crashing on its first day of operation.

The new online MyBond system was supposed to handle all residential bonds from May 1. The five-year contract to operate the system was awarded by the Department of Justice in May last year. But after a year of development, the $869,000 system crashed on its first day of operation.

The website on Tuesday read: “We will advise when MyBond is available again. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

A Department of Justice spokesman late on Tuesday said the site was up and running again.

“Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) is aware of some technical issues with the MyBond system that have caused outages for external users over the last two days.

“During the outage tenants and agents were able to contact CBOS by phone or email and their claims were processed by staff who still had access.

“The developer has investigated the issues and the system is now available to external users. The department would like to thank tenants and agents for their patience.”
