Jake’s strong auction showing a springboard for next event

After months of training and a solid performance at an international auctioneering competition, Jake McIntyre already has eyes set on the 2025 AUSTROS.

JAKE McIntyre took a few lessons away from his first swing at the REIA’s Australasian Auctioneering Championships.

Last week, the Ray White Hobart agent competed against the best auctioneers from Australia and New Zealand when the AUSTROS were held in Hobart as part of the Institute’s centenary celebrations.

Mr McIntyre received positive feedback from the judging panel, and said he was happy with his performance on the day.

“Of course, there’s always room for improvement,” he said.

“I felt that my performance was strong in terms of energy and clarity. However, I did notice a few areas where I could polish my skills further, particularly in handling unexpected bidder reactions and pacing the auction smoothly.

“Overall, I’d rate my performance as solid, but with definite opportunities for growth.”

The AUSTROS dust has only just settled, but already Mr McIntyre is thinking ahead to next year.

“I’ll be training harder on my numerical precision and preparing for more difficult situations,” he said.

“Specifically, I’d focus on practising scenarios where bids come in rapid succession or where there’s a lull and I need to reignite the crowd’s enthusiasm.”

This quirky auction had heads turning

Mr McIntyre said there is a wealth of knowledge in the community of auctioneers.

He described them as passionate about the industry and generous with their insights.

“I learned new techniques for engaging with bidders and maintaining momentum throughout the auction,” he said.

“The event also highlighted the importance of staying calm under pressure and being adaptable.

“Networking with other auctioneers gave me a broader perspective on different styles and strategies that can be employed effectively.”

The event’s winner, Victorian auctioneer Luke Banitsiotis, was a standout, for sure, Mr McIntyre said.

“He really stepped up on the day with flawless numbers, a great property description, and he handled everything with class,” he said.

“Luke’s ability to connect with the audience and maintain a commanding yet approachable presence was particularly impressive.

“His attention to detail and seamless handling of bids demonstrated a level of professionalism and skill that I aspire to.

“He managed to create an engaging and dynamic atmosphere, which is something I aim to incorporate into my own style.”
