A historic country pub north of Toowoomba looks set to be snapped up after the leasehold was put up for sale for $250,000.

The Pioneer Arms Hotel on Mocatta Street in Goombungee, first established in 1897 about 40km outside Toowoomba, has hit the market through SGW Hotel Brokers.

The sale of the town’s only pub would see the new owner take over operations of the venue, which has been recently renovated, and also be able to live in a private residence at the back.

The 800 sqm pub includes a covered beer garden, bistro and open fireplace.

Agent Scott Williams said the sale price made it a good entry point for a couple wanting to make a start in hospitality.

“We’ve had a lot of interest — because we’re selling the leasehold it’s a different market,” he said.

“It creates an opportunity for the younger people who want to get into a pub (so) the interest is coming from city folks who have worked in hospitality and are looking to sell up in Brisbane or the Gold Coast and move here.

“It’s an immaculate fit-out, great kitchen and it’s got a good country feel (so) I think the buyer will be a younger couple.”

Mr Williams said the freehold owner also ran the Murphys Creek Tavern and couldn’t devote enough time to both venues.

“I first approached him and he said one pub was enough,” he said.

“We’ve got a fair bit of interest from Toowoomba locals, I’d love to sell it to someone from the Toowoomba area.

“(With the private residence) it means the buyers also don’t have to buy or rent a house as well.”
