First look: 21 bespoke Battery Point homes to set benchmark

It has been a long time coming, but today the developers of Montpelier House have revealed their vision — and the ambition to create a new level of luxury in Hobart.

Will the market rebound continue into 2024?

MONTPELIER HOUSE will be unlike anything in Tasmania.

With opulent homes ranging from $2.39m to $9.28m, the top end of Hobart’s residential pricing bar will be raised. And with this comes a level of luxury never seen before.

Prestige property expert Pam Corkhill described the Battery Point project as exciting for Tasmania.

“It will be more than a collection of lovely homes, Montpelier House offers a sophisticated lifestyle that we have never seen before,” she said.

Unveiled today by Melbourne-based Bensons Property Group, Montpelier House is described as a “beacon of luxury” in historic and prestigious Battery Point.

Located at No.1 Knopwood St, on the corner with Montpelier Retreat, the building will marry contemporary living with historical and respectful elegance, the developer says.

Montpelier House features 21 bespoke residences — two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The developer will go beyond mere luxury living, offering residents an array of wellness amenities. This includes state-of-the-art fitness facilities, spa therapies, and advanced wellness technology.

A communal garden with dining facilities and a sculpture by renowned Australian artist Nicole Allen, add to the appeal.

Each residence will be equipped with the latest in smart home technology, integrating Google Nest, Supatech lighting control, Sinsibo climate control and Schlange keyless entry.

Karl Fender of Fender Katsalidis Architects — best known locally as the designer of Mona — said they had crafted Montpelier House to respect its place within the heritage of Battery Point.

“The sculpted form of the building builds on the history of this unique neighbourhood to elegantly present an expression of timeless relevance,” he said.

Bensons Property Group managing director Rick Curtis said the development adopted a considered response to the property’s heritage location.

“While contemporary in its design, the intent is to respect history and heritage, while creating a new benchmark that reflects the people that will live in it,” he said.

“This approach results in a design that is informed by complementing the past and having an eye on the future.”

General manager of sales and marketing at Bensons Property Group, Andrew Crichton, said Montpelier House is not just a place to live; “it’s a lifestyle statement”.

“From the meticulously designed interiors by SORA Interior Design, to the state-of-the-art amenities, every aspect of Montpelier House has been composed to enhance and complement the lives of its occupiers,” he said.

“We believe this development will not only redefine luxury living in Hobart, but also become a benchmark in the architectural landscape of the city.

“Our first occupants will be our chairman Elias Jreissati and his wife Colleen.

“They have sought that we deliver the very best and, nothing but the very best.”
