A bird best known for her Ned Kelly impression and big personality has passed away at a Tasmanian zoo.

Zoodoo’s resident Corella Ned made it to the impressive age of 92 before she died on July 17.

The bird’s unusual name was inspired by her love of putting a tin on her head.

Avian species leader Jake Foster said Ned was a favourite among both staff and visitors.

“Visitors are pretty shocked, usually asking where she is when they can’t find her,” he said.

“The staff have been pretty upset, Ned was definitely one of our favourites.”

Ned lived at Flynn’s Pet Shop, which closed down in 2010, for the first eighty years of her life.

Her arrival at Zoodoo marked the beginning of a very happy retirement, where she was well known for her big personality, showing off for customers and chatting with visitors.

“She was a very interactive bird, and she needed the attention from customers always coming through,” Foster said.

“She would bring out new things all the time, things she might not have said for fifty years.”

Her favourites words were ‘hello’ and ‘good boy’.

She could also bark like a dog and enjoyed her favourite treat of walnuts and corn.

Mr Foster said Ned’s impressive age of 92 was “semi-unusual”.

“It’s sort of like a person living into their nineties, not particularly common, but it can be done,” he said
